With sales of all these artists slipping...They all can live happily
ever after just by the royalties.. with no more cds...except maybe
Gary..He needs to sell a few more cds to catch up.
Did I say royalties enough?
Anyone know?
DLR's dad was a doctor, so he is probably living off his dad's money.
Really? That's hilarious! Ahh but fuck it. You know the guy can't be broke
if he can get together with young band members and make another CD or 6.

Can you imagine Dave's voice if he was in a resturaunt like Denny's, he's
sitting there at a booth, and a waitress comes over.
"May I have some cool ice in my lemonade maam?" Dave asks with a harsh rasp
in his voice, and a snooty white-turned-brown-rag falling out of the left
breat pocket of his ragged work shirt on a warm July morning.
That'd be some funny shit! (this wasn't meant to be an insult to Roth....
Just bein' stupid!)

That contradicts your first statement...

OU812 outsold Fair Warning and WaCF, and sold the same as Diver Down and
VH2. FUCK outsold Fair Warning, and Balance equaled it.
I don't know why some people think that. Even though his career has been
a big flop since 1991, you have to remember that DLR got 1/4 of the 40
million or so albums VH sold worldwide that he sang on. He gets 1/4 of
the publishing for those albums, and raked in a ton of money from
merchandise sales and appearance fees for 5 major headlining world
tours. He made the lion's share of the money generated by his 3
successful solo albums, and 2 successful tours. Unless DLR sunk 50
million into a real estate scam or something, he's loaded, and always
will be.
Actually, Dave gets 25% royalties from the 6 best selling VH albums.
Only 5150 outsold any of the DLR era albums to any degree, while some
of SH's other VH albums came close to some other DLR albums in sales.
Dave has earned more royalties from VH than any other singer,
including SH.

could you tell me what issue etc. for this information - I'm very curious to
read it. Thanks.

"Mind, Body, Heart & Soul...we've got Rock & Roll...and there's nothing they
can do"
Wasn't there a big legal battle at some point after Roth left? Didn't the
remaining original members sue him with something along the lines of a "You
choose to leave, you should only be entitled to a reduced royalty rate from
future sales" or something along those lines? I know the battle took place but
I've never seen with the content of it was, nor the outcome. Anybody?

I personally really thought he'd end up like Rob Pilatus of
MilliVanilli.

Too bad he spent it all on pot!
Last time I was in LA (about 2 years ago) I checked and found that DLR's
father "Dr. Nathan Roth" is still alive and I believe practicing
medicine. He's an eye surgeon and has a small office in Pasadena. You
can look him up in the Pasadena phone book.
The libraries in Pasadena keep old copies of phone books dating back 30+
years. If you are so motivated you can go to a local library there and
look up Nathan Roth and get the address to the mansion where Dave grew
up. Apparently, Dave bought the mansion from dad back in the early '80s
and was living there still. I has a high wall all around the property
and a sign inside the iron gate that reads "Nothing in here is worth
dying for".
You can also look in a 1975-76 Pasadena phonebook and get the address
for Jan Van halen. You can drive by the tiny, I mean tiny house where Ed
& Al grew up. The back yards of his house and the neighbors had no
fences so there was a huge communal yard-space in the middle of the
block with the little houses all around the outside. I guess this is
where some very early "gigs" were played.
I had the addresses written down but can't find the paper (it's been a
long time since I drove by)
Good luck if you're going hunting for their pasts.

I thought that David Lee Roth was originally from the midwest
like Illinois or something.
Very possible but he was living in Pasedena just north of LA in
1975-76...and has since...
According to the World Almanac, he was in fact born in Bloomington.
They have his birthdate wrong though (this was covered in a thread here
a month or two ago), so perhaps their information on his place of birth
should be taken with a grain of salt.

He is. Just read "Crazy From The Heat" it's all in there.
