1 Question 2 all the Hagarites posting in this newsgroup: Besides you who
is gonna buy Sammy's new album. Were you not paying attention when VH +
Dave received a standing ovation at the VMA's, or at the support 4 Dave at
the Howard Stern movie premier party. Obviously these people weren't
exactly happy with VH's direction since Dave's departure. They went from
being a hard rock party band 2 singing Journey-ish tunes like "Love Walks
In", & "When It's Love." Not 2 mention it's been years since Ed has made
any major guitar breakthroughs.

Question 1 : Obvoiusly Sammy Hagar fans. There are more of them out there
than you might think. He's been around a long time. Also depends who else
is playing on it. If, for example, Jeff Beck played on a few tunes I'm
sure a few Jeff Beck fans would pick it up. I would also think some Van
Halen fans would too. Some people started liking VH during the Sammy era.

Question 2 : I saw the "highlights". I don't watch MTV and don't really
give a shit about Howard Stern.

I guess your point is you and many others prefer Dave era VH. That's
cool, so do I. To think that has anything to do with the quality of music
Sammy will create is a little narrow minded. His new cd might suck bigtime
or it might knock your socks off. You or I won't know 'til we hear it.
Sammy gets a very undeserved bad rap in this newsgroup. I don't love the
guy, but I think he helped the band when they were in a tough spot. For
that he deserves a little more consideration. He was in a no win
situation. If the Sammy era VH kicked as all the credit would be given to
Eddie. If it failed Sammy would be blamed.
Everyone seems to forget that VH is controlled mainly by Eddie and to
some extent Alex. Songwriting is purely Eddie's domain. Nothing that ever
went on a VH record in the Sammy years didn't have Eddie's stamp of
approval. Eddie wrote the music and Sammy the lyrics(with Eddie's
approval).
If you have a problem with Sammy's voice or stage presence, that's one
thing. But to blame him for the bands direction during the years he was
with VH is plain WRONG. Point the finger at Eddie. If the recent
interviews haven't opened peoples eyes as to how the band was run, nothing
will. Eddie was/is and always be Van Halen. What he says goes.
If anybody doesn't like the Sammy years it's because Eddie lost the fire.
He's in a rut. Most of his recent guitar playing seems repetative and
lacks inspiration. Can Sammy be blamed for this too ? He sings the hell
out of those tunes. Even if it's a "yeah yeah yeah" like in Amsterdam.
Eddie lost the fire, not Sammy. Cut him some slack.

... I'm off my soapboax

Peace

Man. I couldn't agree with you any more. You hit the nail on the spot. I
happen to love sammy moreso than dave. Granted dave is one helluva cocky
mofo, I don't think he could recreate, or lest we say eddie recreate the
past. As far as I am concerned Eddie will never turn heads like he used
to for his guitar playin. the only heads he will turn is ex-vh fans when
they hear the lame-ass material he puts out with cherone. I shouldn't
really say that but... If i am a betting man, I would say that Dave and
Sammy were more puppets to eddie and his ways..Dave will always be the
cocky one , and sammy the one who landed a tough gig to follow...I mean
its like tryin to replace a Jimi Hendrix with a Kurt Cobain...They are
both great in there own right but different ya know?? some prefer one
and others the other..

ohh well. just thought you did a great job on your post..

Sammy deserves some credit , come on........Sammy is almost 50....He
can't be cocky like dave was when he was in his 20's and I doubt he
would want to,,,,time and maturity will do that to you....

rock on

Dave would put the spunk back in VH that they seem to have lost somewhere
along the line. But as for Sammy, I wish him the best of luck on his
new solo career but I think it was time for the band to move on. I hope
they are headed in the right direction.

Geez... and Edison hasn't done shit since the light bulb either!
Boy are you guys hard! I mean the guy changed the whole direction of
popular guitar and saved us from disco. That alone should get him a
place on Mount Rushmore in my books!!!
