Does anyone here know the Specs(Large Bore, Small Bore etc) for
the CONN trombone that Christian Lindberg designed?

as far as i know it's just a glorified 88H, with differently laquered bells
and a big valve, and open wrap f-section.
so to answer your question it is a large bore.

Have a look at
http://www.tarrodi.se/lindberg/instruments.html

He has developed two "signature line" instruments with UMI-Conn. The
tenor one is a normal 88H with his novel valve and wrap. This is a
wonderful instrument. If there is a large UMI dealer in your area,
they should keep at least one 88H-CL in stock. Try it out.

It has been reported here that Lindberg is playing the version that has
the sterling bell. These have been difficult to come by, but the
production seems to be catching up. The good news is that I was quoted
30-day delivery on the sterling bell last week. The bad news is this
dealer wanted almost $2800 bucks for that instrument.

The yellow or rose brass bell 88H-CLs should sell for well under
$2000. Try it. I think you'll like it. The wrap is very open. The
valve is a rotor, but a large one. This allows it to have a very short
stroke ahile keeping the airflow rather straight. A number of people,
myself included, believe that the horn is actually more free blowing
with the valve engaged than without!? Lindberg has been through a
succession of valves, so make sure you are looking at his newer version.

One final point, the horn comes with a really cool-looking mouthpiece.
The outside of the piece looks like a small funnel, and is completely
gold-plated. It is a relatively heavy mouthpiece, akin to the
Megatones.

Lindberg's work for Conn includes improvements to the venerable 88H, most
notably some custom mouthpieces and the new F attachment rotor (actually
designed by his father-in-law, who is a top instrument repair technician in
Lindberg's homeland). To my knowledge, Lindberg has not designed a complete
instrument for Conn. You'll find info at the UMI homepage.

I've owned and played an 88HCL for about a year and a half...it's a
gorgeous instrument, big sounding, free blowing and slick. IMO, the
model I have has a valve which seems no different to the standard 88H
O/W..my second seat guy got a standard 88H at the same time, they look
identical. I would say that having tried to get along with the very
sexy looking CL muthpiece which came with the instrument for about two
months, I gave up, I just didn't feel that it was any help at all and
indeed seemed to be a hinderance to me personally in the lower
register...if anyone at UMI would like to send me some samples I'd
gladly give it another go..I ended up giving the mouthpiece away as I
just didn't see any benefit in it. If Conn really want to improve the
design, IMHO, they should do something about the string valve...while I
have never had any problems with this one or other Conn's I have had in
the past..(isn't it strange how we all seem to be in either the Conn or
Bach camp? No it's Ok, just a passing thought, I don't really want to
start another thread along the lines of Creme vs SOM for instrument
manufacturers!!)...I know people who have and it is a worry that
something like that could "go" in the middle of a solo! Valve
technology does seem to have moved on..I'm not a technician, just
observing, so I don't know the details. Just a thought!
Anyway, I love my 88H CL..even if I couldn't get along with the m/p..oh
and one other thing...the plating at the left hand grip is wearing on
mine on the slide section..anyone else had this problem..seems to be a
bit excessive after such a short time..comments..?
Cheers,
Martin G.

how does the Conn compare with the Bach 42 series?
What are the advantages of using the Christian Lindberg
mouthpiece?

The babes dig it.

The new CL valve uses mechanical linkage and is substantially larger in
diameter than the original one.

all the newer 88H's now have ball joint linkage between the valve and the
trigger itself.

I have tried the linberg cl1 mouthpiece and found the rim too narrow to play
on for any length of time.
Especially as i ram it on quite a lot!
