HORNER

Mark Woolman Horner died as a result of a homicide at his home in
San Antonio, TX on Monday, December 14, 1998. He was born in Bar
Harbor, ME on August 24, 1973. He graduated from Mount Desert High
School in 1991 and went on to complete a Bachelor's degree in
Music in 1995 at The Juilliard School in New York City. Mark was a
gifted musician who was principal trombonist in the San Antonio
Symphony at the time of his death. When Mark was a toddler he was
fascinated by music and often fell asleep by the stereo speakers.
In high school he played with the Empire Brass Quintet and the
Greater Boston Youth Symphony. In these efforts he was supported
by the community at large. At Juilliard he was privileged to study
under Joseph Alessi, principal trombonist of the New York
Philharmonic Orchestra, a guiding spirit for Mark's brief and
promising career. He is survived by his mother, Carol Woolman; his
father and stepmother, William and Nina Horner; and his sister,
Lara Horner and Wayne Gray, all of Bar Harbor. Also surviving are
his sister, Amy and James Munson of Brooklyn, NY and their
children, Helena and Tarzan; his brother, R. Christian Horner and
wife Alexandra of Los Angeles, CA; his maternal grandparents,
Mildred and Charles Woolman of Elmer, NJ; and his paternal
grandmother, Beatrice Louise Horner of Ben Harbor. He was
predeceased by his paternal grandfather, W. Rea Horner. Three
step-siblings, Jennifer Judd-McGee, Kathy Judd Gonda, and Samuel
Judd, survive him as well as many dear aunts, uncles and cousins.
He formed deep friendships in every avenue of his life, and all
mourn his loss. AService of Celebration of the life of Mark Horner
under the care of Acadia Friends Meeting will occur on Saturday,
December 19, 1998, at St. Saviour's Episcopal Church in Bar Harbor
at 1:00 P.M. Arrangements were made by Fernald's Funeral Home.
