Does anyone know of any orchestral works that are scored for contrabass
trombone?
Bartok "Concerto for Orchestra" doesn't count. Thanks.

It doesn't count because it does NOT call for a
contrabass trombone. It calls for a bass trombone
in F. With a horn in that key, it is possible
to play the infamous "B" to "F" glissando in the
1st partial (pedal range) from 7th to 1st positions.

BTW, I know of no major orchestral work that calls
for a true BBb contrabass trombone.

Major works for contrabass:

The Ring Wagner (okay so you can play the whole thing on a large tenor
with a trigger but the score does say contrabass trombone)

Integrales Edgard Varese

Octandre Edgard Varese ( okay so both are obscure chamber pieces that
sound like Star Trek suspense/danger music)

So none of the above is orchestral, this is all I could remember and it
seems that everyone else is trying to access the 2 pages that have anything
to say about contrabasses.

Ah yes, played the Bartok about 8 yrs ago, on my humble Yamaha YBL-321
(single F-attachment)!!!

After much trying out of various techniques for the impossible glissando,
including snatching from one partial to another at the same time as a
downward slide movement, half-way along the gliss (!), the conductor and I
agreed that we would settle for a clean C to F crescendo glissando. It
worked a treat and no-one even noticed -- just the usual giggles at a good
rip-snorting farting noise.

Orchestral contrabass trombones in germany are always in F, the contrabass
trombone in Bb nobody uses the last 100 years in germany.
