Hey guys, son of Jim here. Dad's been sort of retired lately and looking to
move to Florida. I know he'll do fine but lately has seemed to be a little
dark. Anyone remember him? Would love to here from anyone who does. Also, if
anyone wants to talk to him about the bone thing I know he'd be happy to hear
from you. 417-339-1745. I think he just needs a little encouragement. Who
know's. Maybe someone will get something out of it. He's all patient with,
"how do you do it" questions.

Thanks guys,

Jon Trimble

Man, I KNOW I know your name. Sorry dad doesn't have email now but you can
either call him or if you wish to send me your number, I'll have him call you.

Thanks for the response....:)

Jon,

I grew up in NJ and went to college in Las Vegas. My FIRST DAY in Las Vegas
I attended a concert at the student union building. Your father played lead
trombone and BLEW ME AWAY. I had never heard playing like that (I was 18
years old - this was in 1978). I went up to him after the concert and had a
nice conversation.

During that conversation he invited me to come to the Dunes Hotel (if I
remember correctly) and listen to him play the show he was doing at that
time. I met him in the parking lot that evening before the show. He
escorted me in and we went up to the band area. He let me stand in his spot
with the music in front of me on the music stand. He stood BEHIND me so
there was no way he could see the music. He proceeded to play the show
perfectly (really) AND played some of the trumpet parts (up in the trumpet
range!). I walked out of there in SHOCK!!!!!! I have never gotten over
it!! :-)

I wish I had gotten to know your father better, but the times that I did
speak with him he was very nice to me. He even asked me to sit in with his
rehearsal band once at the musician's union bldg.

Am I remembering correctly that your father played on a horn that had been
cut down so that B natural sounded in FIRST position?

Your father probably won't remember me by name, but please say hello to him
for me anyway and send a sincere THANKS from me!

I listened to that solo ALL the time...it's a classic.
I always wondered what happened to him. I never saw his name on records
and thought a player of that high caliber must be blowing somewhere. You can
hear him screaming all through the record. Norwegian Wood kicks ass too with
the mute thing. John Boblett

There is a big band album from Las Vegas (late 70's) that was organized by
Jeff Sturges (an EXCELLENT arranger and trombonist) where Jim Trimble plays
lead. I don't recall that he is featured on the album, but the lead playing
is the greatest! The band was called "Universe" I think. It has been so
long I can hardly remember, but what I do remember is a vinyl record filled
with great arrangements and great playing.

Jon, do you have any information on this album. I have it somewhere in
storage, but not easily accessible. Does anybody know what Jeff Sturges is
doing these days? I played for Englebert Humperdink occasionally (late 70's
in Las Vegas) and Jeff was the musical director. What ever happened to him?

As far as I remember Jeff moved to LA and was there ever since. I have that
album on vinyl. It rocks!!!!!! I'll see if I can't copy it off and send it to
you if you like. Mind you last time I made this promise on an obscur Bobby Shew
recording, it took me a year to deliver....LOL Tom Porrello played Lead. One
of my last trumpet teachers before I left Vegas. Bobby Shew was on that album
too. Some English guy was also in the section.

Lemme know what's up and I'll check my library.

These posts about Jim Trimble and Las Vegas has brought back a lot of good
memories and made me think about players who I haven't heard about in a LONG
time.

Does anybody know what happened to another great player, Sam Cernuto?

He used to play lead at the Hilton. I remember sitting there playing 3rd
and going into SHOCK at his sound. He could strip paint off the walls. I
LOVED IT!!

Does anyone know what he is doing now?

Last I heard, he left Vegas after all the union crapola in 90 and want to
Tennessee somewhere but not Nashville. Be very interesting to hear about how
he's doing.

Jon,

There was another guy at the Hilton who I really liked. He was from Japan
and evidently had some notoriety over there. He didn't speak much English,
but he and I used to get together and play duets between shows etc. His
name was Hiroshi Suzuki. Any idea what happened to him?

Last I heard he was still in Vegas but I haven't been back there in about 4
years. Don't hear much from guys in Vegas these days.
