I usually play an 88H and have no trouble playing down to Pedal C, so range
is no trouble. My problem lies in knowing how best to use the second
trigger. At present my understanding of this does not go far beyond the fact
that a B natural is aided by the addition of this valve. I am sure that the
Bass Trombonists amongst you will have many tricks that will help.
Also if anyone has any exercices or idea on how to avoid the change in tone
quality when a valve is used these would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Mike Saville.
My opinion (based on both experience, and from what I've learned from the
"experts" on this NG), is that the change in tone is a Mental problem, and
not a mechanical. I have overcome it without too much difficulty.
Let's say that you have a single rotor horn, with the attachment tuned to C
near the middle of the Bass Clef.....You'll play a Bb like normal, and you
will think of that note in 1st position.....then you'll play a C, and you'll
still think of that note in 1st position...however, when you hit the
trigger, you are in effect (as far as physics is concerned) moving your
slide to 6th position, as if were playing a straight tenor....so you see the
problem, mentally in 1st, physically in 6th.....
Hope my *long* explanation helps....
