I am the section leader for the trombones of my high school marching
band. We would like maroon colored slide covers for our field shows and
parades. Does anyone know of a place where we can purchase slide covers
(with our band's name on it) for a decent price? Please e-mail me if you
can help at: trom...@earthling.net

Thanks,
Cathy

Does your school have a sewing shop or something? Might be easy to make
these...

I'd get appropriate fabric, somehow put the name on (that's the tough part,
but trombonists are clever!) and attatch velcro to get it on the slide.
Whaddaya think about that?

If you decide to do this, be sure to use the lightest material you can find.
My school used to just tahe the school's name in construction paper letters and
tape it to the slide. That worked because it added almost no weight. If you
use a material too havy, the slide will get sluggish. Good luck with it.

we do just that for pep band at my school. we use a sturdy green fabric
with yellow cut-out letter simply sewn onto the fabric itself. no velcro,
we just make them to fit each slide, and slide it on from the top. the
spit valve keeps it from falling off.

I was going to suggest what was basically covered (no pun intended) in the last
4 messages. I'm in the middle of making one for my trombone for UConn pep band
(if I get a chance to play like I did last year). It's fairly easy and
inexpensive. I'm just sewing mine to fit the slide and the spit valve keeps it
on. Just make sure you measure ea. slide since they vary (around and length).
For the length don't let it cover the spit valve and leave enough room at the
other side for your fingers to move the slide. Since it is fairly easy and
inexpensive you could ask each member to make their own so that your not stuck
making a whole bunch. I know that for the UConn Marching band (they don't use
them, but I'm using them for a size example) that'd be 20 slide covers to make.
Good luck.
