Yep...I bought a brand-new Benge 190F just this past August.
Excellent horn--looks great, beautiful symphonic tone, but I can get an
excellent jazz sound out of it as well.

I have a Benge 190 that I like a lot. It has a nice, warm sound, but
can push the volume through when needed. The partials aren't quite as
settled as on my Bach and my King, but it's a good hrn.

Death to all Absolutists!
The 165F is probably the best midpriced .547 bore horn that comes
with an F-attachment. I had a student show up for a lesson one day
with one and I was pleasantly surprised. In my opinion, it plays
better than the Yamaha midpriced horns that I've encountered.
That said, it's not a pro line horn and it doesn't play as well as
the Bach 42, the Conn 88, the Edwards, the Shires, or even the
Holton TR156 (not 158). The Benge professional model, the 192F,
is not in the same leauge as these other horns. Because the 192F
costs the same as the Bach and Conn, it's not a good buy.
But if you are a student on a budget and understand that the
165F is not quite the horn as the Bach 42, it's a very good
horn for the money. Enjoy.
PS I told my student that I could make money on his horn if I
had to. Though I would rather play my Edwards or a Bach, I could
make money on the 165F. I wouldn't want to do that with the Yamaha
(or any Yamaha for that matter).

I played a 165F alongside my 8H for about 3 years, and it paid for itself
several times over, and I sold it for about 95% of the purchase price. I was
very impressed; it's probably the most horn you can get for the price.

I used to recommend the Blessing for those on a budget. Now
I usually guide kids toward the Benge 165F.

Now at that price, it's a good buy for someone on a budget.
Also bear in mind, I don't care for the 190 that much, but
there are those who like it. I understand that the Cleveland
Orchestra section plays Benge (the only professional section that
I know of that uses them).
At $580, it's a good buy.

That is VERY reasonable. Somebody here should snap that up.
Believe me, if I were in the market for a large bore horn, that thing
would be gone. :) Nice looking horn, GREAT price. Gotta save up for
that 2-B SilverTone/Sonic though :-)
BTW...what are the significant differences (if any) between the Benge
165/190, the Conn 88-H, and the King 4B?
