i fucking hate Dennis Leary now. i used to think he was funny, but now
that i've heard a lot of bill hick's stuff i've come to the realization
the Dennis Leary is truly the asshole he says he is. he sold out by
plagerizing Hicks and is everything Hicks hated about the world. fuck.

And for vocalising popular opinion in a way that has been said many times
before: 8 points out of a possible 10.

eh.. I personally always hated Denis Leary.. he's just fuckin annoying. Bill
actually had a meaning with his stand-up comedy... and had more balls.... I
like Bill Hicks better.

Here are Bill Hicks own words on it.

Comedians are often a paranoid bunch, seeing joke stealers behind
every microphone stand. Unfortunately it does happen. Many observers
tend to see large portions of Bill's act in that of new pop-icon and
MTV star Denis Leary. Watching Leary is like seeing Hicks from two
years ago. He smokes with the same mannerisms. (Hicks recently quit)
He sports the same attitude, the same clothes. He touches on almost
all of the same themes. Leary even invokes Jim Fixx. Hicks says, "I
have a scoop for you. I stole his act. I camouflaged it with
punchlines, and to really throw people off, I did it before he did."

What a bunch of B.S. Dennis Leary was original.

no, he wasn't. he really did rip a LOT from hicks...specifically a lot of
the smoking bits, and like the guy above says i've heard hick's jim fixx
lines rehashed by leary years afterwards, making my respect for him drop
greatly. hey, he stole, but at least he stole from the best. still lame
though...

If it's been a while since you've taken the time to listen to a few of
Bill's routines, I highly recommend you buy a C.D. or hop on over to the
A.M.T. hub and snag a few tracks.

I noticed the SacredCow site is down, does anybody know what's up with that?

I read something interesting today, a reviewer compares a comic by the name
of Glen Wool to Dennis Leary and Bill Hicks.
Here's the relevant bit...

"Similarly, he follows well-trodden paths in his stage style, with the same
chain-smoking, drug-taking, audience-baiting, liberal-hating, outspoken
belief in personal expression espoused by Dennis Leary, Bill Hicks and an
entire posse of cowboy comedians."

This guy is either a moron, or he has a very skewed take on reality, -why
would he throw "liberal hating" in there? Do any of you see Hicks -or- Leary
that way? -Interesting discussion either way.

"Yesterday some hooligans knocked over a dust-bin in Shaftsbury"....

Heh..."liberal hating." That's funny. Methinks somebody missed out on a bunch
of Hicks routines. The sickest thing I ever heard was the Rush Limbaugh in the
bathtub one....with Barbara Bush...uh...I can't even repeat it since it is so
gross.

someone thinks leary didnt rip off bill? Ok... i saw Leary in concert in
1994... this is one of his routines

"I smoke I smoke i smoke *puffs on ciggarette and makes obnoxious noises*
mmmmmmm i go thru two lighters a day on this shit" - Leary, 1993

"You smoke? How much do you smoke? (guy in audience: A pack) well, what a
little puss. That pisses me off, I go thru two lighters a day!" - Bill Hicks
"Sane Man" video 1989

not to mention Leary incorporating smoking ciggarettes on stage in his act,
stealing lines and replacing a word or two and dressing like Bill.
