I was listening to the Tool webcast the other day. I freaked out when I learnt
that Aenima was indeed recorded on 8 Tracks. I fell off my chair because I
think it's the best sounding CD I got in my collection you see! :)
If anyone would have more information on that matter, it would be really
appreciated. (What machine? DA-88? ADAT? How did they organize the
tracks? Did they mixed down the drums at first or they used like 3 or 4
microphones? etc..etc..)
Meanwhile, I'll keep digging... :D

It WAS reported as fact in several trade mags, to be fair to the guy.
I also thought that it was true for a while.
Marc, there was a post here about the recording of Aenima if you're
interested - the only thing I recall specifically about it was that each
drum was individually mic'ed with two additional overheads and played back
through a PA in real time, so that the entire kit must've taken more than 10
channels on its own.
Hope this helps,

don`t bother.
notice
A) they are an accomplished and commercially sucsessful band
B) the size of danny`s drum kit
C) the studio where they recorded Ænima
and you can determine that there`s no way they used 8 tracks. probably 48 or 96.
depending on the song.

Even if a studio has the most advanced technology, it doesn't have to follow
that the band USE it.

I dunno - we always like to believe our favorite musicians can do the
impossible. And I've heard 8 tracks sound awesome (maybe not as good as
Aenima); remember that the Beatles work at Abbey Rd was done in the main on
less than four tracks.

Yeah, overcompensation is always a bitch though. Hehh. I wish that Lars
would just listen to a James Brown record sometimes, y'know? =)

Heh, they used 46 tracks for audio and an extra 2 tracks for smpte sync ;)
All this time we thought 46&2 was some deep insight to evolving genetics!

first of all, i can't decide if that's a really cool idea or a really dumb
idea.
but anyways, speaking of black albums.... awe, hell, i'm just gonna start a new
thread.
