Today, to celebrate Presidents Day, NPR's daily show "All Things
Considered" did about 15 minutes on lesser-celebrated presidents (Martin
van Buren, Franklin Pierce, Gerald Ford, etc.). One of the ones they talked
about was James K. Polk, and naturally they played the TMBG song of the
same name.

Now, the version they played was one that was recorded in an NPR
affiliate station in New York, with John & John, Graham Maby, and a drummer
(I don't remember who it was, but I do remember it was not Brian Doherty).
So, I imagine this is a version of the song that is unavailable elsewhere.

If you're interested in a copy of it, you can probably order one
through NPR's website, which is at http://www.npr.org/ . Or, if you're
friendly with your local NPR station, ask them for a copy. The story
appears in the very last 1/2 hour of ATC's two-hour show.

So there you have it. TMBG shows up on National Public Radio.
One more reason to send your money to them.

The drummer is Dan Hickey. It's more like the "Istanbul" single version
than the FS album version. There is one major lyrical change: James
Buchanan is described as "a waffler" instead of "a moderate."

And, after the anchorman outros the President's Day story, there's a minute
or so of JKP played instrumentally, with plenty of accordion.

Or e-mail me, or one of the many other people who are sure to pop up on
this newsgroup to say they recorded it as well.
