Not What You Think
I think people had a generally good impression of cub, even though their
pop-punk kinda music isn't exactly like TMBG. They really get into the
show and have a good time while they're performing. And if you go to a
few of their shows, they'll yell out your name (like cub did for me when
they came on stage and asked who was at the Fireside Bowl when they
performed last month). It's nice to be loved every now and then :-)
I know I missed a few, so if anyone got the whole setlist and could post
it, that'd be great. TMBG did 2 encores, during one of which was the
"No One Knows My Plan" conga. That was nice since I lost my place right
up front for only a few songs. It amazes me how people can conga in
such a tightly packed space. Flansburgh came out for the first encore
wearing the cub t-shirt like the one I bought at my first cub show,
which was neat. He also changed the much-talked about lyric for "NYC"
back to the original cub version. Instead of "the Empire State where
Dylan lives," he sang, "the Empire State where King Kong lives." I was
also amused when he leaned over the barrier up front to give his guitar
pick to the girl standing in front of me and let her pick a few chords
during a song - "The Guitar", I think.
A few people who'd posted earlier were concerned about moshing at the
show. It wasn't really that bad, but there were a few times where a
surge of people pushed us all in the front. And there were a couple of
idiot crowd surfers, but luckily they never made it too far or stayed up
too long. I don't think it was enough to irritate Them too much,
though. That's about it from me. In case anyone's wondering, I'm the
tall guy who bobbed his head constantly during cub's perfomance standing
directly in front of Lisa Marr and Flansburgh. I hope everyone enjoyed
the show as much as I did!
