Here's a couple TMBG/TP similarities (kind of like the amazing
Lincoln/Kennedy coincidences):
--Agent Cooper speaks to "Diane" about the questions that continue
to trouble him re: the Kennedy assassinations. In "Purple Toupee", TMBG
sing "I remember the book depository..."
--Coffee was, of course a recurring theme in Twin Peaks and it
also shows up in TMBG songs and on the famous "cup of coffee" t-shirts.
--Forensic FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield was a nasty guy (at least
at first). Triangle Man was a nasty guy.
--TMBG wrote a song about a dead president ("James K. Polk"). TP
featured a character named after a dead president (Sheriff Harry S.
Truman), although this character was also named for the old man with the
same name who was killed in the Mount St. Helen's eruption...

Er... I think this thread was a joke.
Ever talk to those people who rabidly hate smileys? They say the
humor has been around since the dawn of time and only now, in the
computer age, can we not tell if something is meant as a joke unless it
has a smiley. That is a stupid argument, becuase if someone told you a
joke with a totally straight face in real life, it would confuse you for
a while possibly. However, with this thread... I think it was meant as a
bit silly from the beginning, and it is humorous. Don't ruin all of our
fun by thinking it's serious.
Or perhaps your post was also only a joke? Your last sentance seems
to uphold that theory. I'm not going to hope that TMBG breaks up. That
would be stupid. If you think they suck, stop reading the group. Hasn't
someone created the newsgroup for losers like this guy yet?

I think I'll let it stop right about there.
Okay, well one more ... Twin Peaks fanzine is called 'Wrapped in Plastic'
... every TMBG release comes to us (ods my bodkins!) >wrapped in
plastic<.
So there you go.
Love Skull, I must say.

And Oliver Stone made a film called JFK. Coincidence? I think NOT!

And I have a number of friends who actually...DRINK COFFEE. Coincidence?
I think NOT!

I won't even bother wasting energy mocking this one.

And...all US currency has a PICTURE of a dead president. Coincidence?
I THINK NOT!

With coincidences like these, who needs causality?

Twin Peaks, "good up until the end"? Did you catch the two-hour finale? I
think not! What the hell was that about?! I laughed the entire way thru
TP: Firewalk With Me as well. I hope TMBG doesn't take their followers for
granted half as much as Lynch/Frost apparently did.
I *could* see them singing a pleasant little ditty about a homecoming
queen in a body bag, though ;-)

I want to thank Allan for defending my Twin Peaks/TMBG similiarities
question. I guess these two cultural events will are just
synchronistically linked in my mind--for more on synchronicity, see the
works of Mr. Carl Jung and/or Mr. Sting. :) Oh here' one more--Audrey
Horne="She Was a Hotel Detective". Need I say more?
In They Might Be, there's Giants. In Twin Peaks, there's a midget.
In They Might be Giants, someone keeps moving my chair. In Twin Peaks,
someone keeps moving the plot.
It's become a joke. The person who posted the original article
sounded pretty damned serious. And if he WERE joking, it's a pretty
lame (read dumb) joke at that.
> Or perhaps your post was also only a joke? Your last sentance seems
>to uphold that theory. I'm not going to hope that TMBG breaks up. That

I _don't_ think they suck -- their early stuff is energetic, creative, and
witty. However, I think John Henry (I heard the promo last month) is
a step in the wrong direction...EVERYTHING I liked about their music
seems to have magically dissapeared.
A friend's reaction to Snail Shell (she was a TMBG fan, and she didn't know
she was listening to the new TMBG): "This guy's trying to sound like
They Might Be Giants. Ick." For chrissake, TMBG have done an "End of
the tour" song on John Henry, without a trace of irony. They're not
mocking the cliches anymore, they're paying homage to 'em.
I mean, if your idea of music is a county-fair blues cover band, you'll
like the new direction TMBG have taken. But if not, John Henry will be
a dissapointment. There's nothing nearly as cool on the album as the new
version of "Hotel Detective" on it (which, by the way, I loved).
>Hasn't someone created the newsgroup for losers like this guy yet?
What, alt.people.who.have.taste.in.music? While I'd take the pink album
with me as my only CD to a desert island, John Henry really falls flat.
I hope you realize it as you anxiously take it home...and...realize...
all...the...songs...sound...EXACTLY...the...same.
There are two words in "Twin Peaks" and two members of TMBG!
Twin Peaks was filmed in America, and TMBG are from.. America!
Both chillingly involved humans.
Does this remind anyone else of "The Famous Polka"? ;)
