Hmm, not Unreliable Narrator? To think I trusted that narrator!
Looks like we've got a partial track list:
"Of course, the album will be hit-packed, and include 'Bangs', 'I've Got A
Fang,' 'Cyclops Rock,' 'Finished With Lies,' 'It's So Loud In Here,' 'Yeh Yeh,'
'Another First Kiss,' 'My Man,' 'She Thinks She's Edith Head,' 'Older,' and
many other new songs and current show favorites."
Let's hope they add Thunderbird. Anyone know what "Yeh yeh" and "My man" are?

First Kiss was already released on STD
Older was on the MitM soundtrack and released on eMusic for free as a part of
promoting LTW
She Thinks She's Edith Head was on LTW and McSweeney's
I know I don't speak for the majority of fans out there, but aren't these numbers a
little tired? I've been listening to them since 98/99, over 2 years ago. Don't get
me wrong, I love these songs (although the studio version of STSEH leaves a little to
be desired at the end), but they are a little played out. Anyone with me? Or am I
just too critical?

Your Mom's Alright will be there, they've said it before. Wicked Little
Critta may or may not, not every song gets released. That wasn't the
entire track listing...

Yeah, a live version... We already have live versions of most of these
songs, so why release any of them on the album?

They seem to really like that one, I have no other explanation.

Yeah, and that version sounds like a soundcheck or something, they're
playing around at the end. They recorded a regular studio one (I have a
clip from it) and I'd count on that being the one on the album.

I think you're being too critical except with Older. Older has been on
everything... it's a good song and all but do I really need 5 copies?

Wicked Little Critta is a nifty song but it ain't album material.

I'm glad First Kiss is going to be on the album. A couple years ago
they were saying it wasn't going to be.
That's a major problem with the album situation, by all rights TMBG
should have had two studio albums since Factory Showroom and this next
album is going to have a hard time because of it. There is just so
much material that a lot of stuff is bound to be left off. Hopefully
the album will strike a nice balance of previously unrecorded live
material and completely unheard of new material. It's looking like
this album is going to have somewhere near at least 20 tracks if not
more. It'd be great if they put even more on there. God knows they
could probably fit 35-40 songs on one CD. I think 25 tracks would be
enough to get the majority of 1996-2001 live unreleased stuff (So
Loud, Thunderbird, Cyclops Rock etc.) and still have plenty of space
left for a bunch of brand new material.
It's exciting to think that in a month or two we'll probably have the
title and full tracklist of the album thanks to the wonder that is the
internet. If the album is coming out in August that means promos will
probably be floating around sometime in June too:)

Yep, a better Edith Head would be cool.

All I know is that after all the different releases they've done they
better release a version with the dual vocals at the end like from the
Factory Showroom sessions. Or at least release that version on TMBG
UnLTD.
Yep. They recorded It's So Loud In Here, Cyclops Rock, On the Drag,
and Edith Head at the same time. I wonder if they'll be using those
recordings or if they'll be re-recording them at these new sessions...
Think about this for a second. Were only a small percentage of TMBG fans
here. There are plenty non-internet adept fans who may not know about such
things as the mp3 album or even Mcsweeny's for that matter. The Malcolm in
the middle soundtrack is one thing but fans like us hear alot of these songs
again and again because we are privledged and we also SEEK IT OUT. I for one
cant get enough of TMBG so I scour everywhere for everything thats how you
end up passing off "new" things as old. its only old to you. I know plenty
of tmbg fans who know nothing about whats been happening between factory
showroom and now. One day they'll paruse the local CD store and say "Hey! a
new They Might Be Giants album." and buy it. Thats why they release these
things (again). Also for those of you saying wheres this song? wheres that
song? dont jump the gun! its only april! August 15th is little ways away for
them to give us an entire track list!
Erich

Yeah August 15th sounds more like a ballpark figure as there is no way
that is the actual date. At least that date comes straight from the
band though so that is what they are shooting for.
Nah, I think they're making a special effort to put the album out on
my daughter's birthday as a present for her. They're such nice guys!

That's what I was saying, pretty much.

Last I heard they said maybe... I'm very glad it's changed to yes.

Yeah, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was between 20 and 25
tracks, considering a lot of the songs are short and the Johns know
we'll be disappointed if they leave off anything good.

Have you heard the clip? I had it on Twistid but it got replaced by a
"remix" of the LTW version.

Yeah! But so far they've all been the LTW one.

Yes indeedy, Nefertiti.
They should take a page from the book of their UFO-lovin',
two-track-recordin', penny-pitchin' good pal, Frank Black, whose 2nd solo
CD, Teenager of the Year, had 24 full-length works of pure double-stuff
goodness.
Also, I heard by way of my sister's friend's mechanic's poker bubby's
pedicurist's financial advisor's dog walker that "Older" will appear on
every future TMBG release until the end of time. Apparently Linnell finds
it to be "deliciously ironic." Flansburgh, by contrast, describes the bold
move as "Corporately flip," "Philosophically testy," and "Random-adverbly
random-adjective." Dan Miller conspicuously failed to make any reference to
his wool cap.
That is all I have to say *AT THIS TIME*. Thank you.
Yer Pal Paul
Not back on that old Time is Money kick, still on it.
Especially if they're working with three new producers. I'm sure they'll be
getting brilliant ideas during mixing, where someone leans in and says
"Strings? Anyone? Strings on Thunderbird? It'll be awesome."
Shaft
Sharon B asks: When will I grow up?
JKH, WOWAD: When you stop fighting pirates, forget that you believe in fairies,
leave the exclusive company of orphaned boys, and return to London, the aging
process will recommence. I promise you.
Nope, if you wouldn't mind shooting me the clip via e-mail that'd
rock:) Thanks!

Nah, even though the producers they're working with are known for
producing really poppy material, they wouldn't come up with any really
stupid ideas.

Beats me. I'm still wondering what happened to "Ramjet" and "You Should Hide" ;-D

Didn't the most recent emusic e-mail say that the version of WLC on TMBG
Unlimited was a preview of album material? Sounds like it might be on the
album after all.

Let's hope so. The write-up at theymightbegiants.com says that the album
will have the ten songs listed plus "many more." We're almost certainly
looking at more songs than appeared on Factory Showroom, since three songs
could hardly be considered "many," but we won't necessarily get ten or more.

Yeah, but they might not want to put all of that on the album. Some of it
might be saved for future albums, or put on EP's and such.

Yeah, but this discussion occurred before that email. Seems like a lot
of fans and the Johns have a difference of opinion over what's album
material and what isn't.

Well, they've already put some of the better songs on an EP.
