Hey all, here's a quick guide to the April TMBGU songs:

1. Sleepwalkers - not bad. the No! version, I assume
2. Shooting Star - Same as from DAS. Nice to hear a quality version
3. Finished With Lies - the new DAS version. They say it's only a demo.
4. Wicked Little Critta - Remixed by the Elegant Two. More palatable
than the DAS version
5. Ram On - Cover of a Paul McCartney track. Instrumental, and very
entertaining.
6. Chopping Block Testimonial - Sounds like an ad for CB. Flans sounds
like Bruce McCulloch's mentally handicapped character from KITH
7. Oranges - Same as the one at the website. Still cool.
8. Fibber Island - Never heard this one. A country song with a bizarre
twist (of course)
9. No!
10. I Am A Grocery Bag
11. Wake Up Call - These three are all the versions most of us have heard
12. Medley: Where Your Eyes Don't Go & Why Does the Sun Shine
13. It's Not My Birthday - These last songs were recorded at WFMU, where
the Frank O'Toole show is done.

I know...those of you who subscribe can just go there to find this out,
but this is a message to all of those who don't subscribe...do it! It's a
great deal...all of this each month, plus access to lots and lots of other
emusic stuff! I'd suggest Bis: Music For A Stranger World. And check out
Oddballs by Frank Black, too!

Yay, I think this is my favorite issue so far... I agree with the Frank

listened.

Like everyone else, I hate to complain about every issue that goes up,
but do we now have ALL of the No! album in mp3 format? Why? Why is
almost every song on Unlimited a "preview" of what's going to be on
one album or another, or what's already been on a compilation?
Why don't they give us good recordings of the ORIGINAL Finished With
Lies or What Is Everyone Staring At, like we all seem to want, instead
of the overwrought "new" versions? The only real, original,
non-preview TMBG songs this month are Wicked Little Critta and
Oranges, and their merits are debatable.

Man, I'd love to hear clean versions of the DAS Birdhouse, Where Your
Eyes Don't Go, I Pal I... or never-released stuff like Cupid, Concrete
& Clay, Living Doll, What Is Everyone..., No Answer (well, that could
be a preview track, who knows)... maybe it's coming, but the trend
hasn't been towards that kind of thing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad for the live stuff, some of the
preview stuff has at least been very good, and some of this month's
selection sounds interesting (I'm downloading now), but I REALLY
thought we'd be getting a lot of never-will-be-released stuff and
demos from the vault, which is kinda why I signed up in the first
place... now I'll just hesitate about plunking down $15 for No! when
it comes out...

Is anyone else still bitter that They've decided not to release "What Is
Everyone Staring At?" as opposed to "Sleepwalkers?" I like "Sleepwalkers"
and all...but "WIESA?" was sooo much better, and I would kill to get my ears
on a studio-quality recording of it. Being a high school student, I now
realize I ought to be careful using that phrase...pshaw. Anywhooooo...just
thought I'd rant. I *am* learning "WIESA?" on the piano, though, so "mad
props" or whatever to me. :o)

OK, so I should have listened first. The version of Where Your Eyes
Don't Go up this month IS the DAS version, and that makes me very very
happy. I've always preferred that simpler yet more rok-oriented
version to the final one, and I've always hoped Unlimited might yield
a good-quality mp3 of it. So, um, yay Unlimited!

They do need to fix the hiccup in Fibber Island, and the cut-off end
of It's Not My Birthday...

I actually think the bootleg on TDK's site is higher quality, but I also
prefer this version of it.

Well, we don't have all of No! yet, give it another month. I do think the Do
Not Forsake Me demo was a step in the right direction, or the direction you are
referring to. I'd love to hear clean, old DAS favorites also, but then again,
I really do enjoy any Unlimited tracks I get. It's nice that we're getting
masters of the Frank O Toole live tracks, but the demos of those early songs
would be great as an option. I don't know, I can't complain really.
McSweeny's is like a brand new TMBG release and it's really great. With that
and the unlimited I think they're sucessfully ridding themselves of the
constipation songs that Andy Partridge mentioned, which can only be good news
for their next studio album.

This is great news... Langer/Winstanley are fantastic. I didn't know Adam
Schlesinger produced, though.

Now, what happened to the Butcher Brothers? I recall theymightbegiants.com
saying that something like 5-9 songs had already been recorded with them in
summer '99... I wonder if those sessions will still turn up on the album, or if
they'll be remixed/rerecorded.

Sorry, I'm incapable of leaving this hanging. :) Note the question
mark at the end of my sentence... I asked, and was informed there are
three or so more tracks yet unreleased. So, we do not have all of No!,
just almost. Still disagree with the philosophy behind all this, and I
imagine we'll get the rest in May.

There is one... you just have to look for it. If you type in "they might be

OR!
On the main TMBGU where it lists the names of all of the tracks on the
side, instead of clicking on the name of the song, you click on the button and
scroll down. Then you can download all songs at the same time, but you need
the software.

And that's a bad thing, why? I'm glad to get it now, rather than having

I love the previews. I don't mind paying a few bucks a month to get this
stuff early. It makes waiting until August that much easier.

I'm happy to finally get quality copies of "No!" and "Wake Up Call." I'm
also glad to see that Emusic seems to have mostly straightened out the
volume issues (though "Wake Up Call" does seem a touch louder than the
rest of the tracks).

I won't hesitiate to plunk down at least $60 for No! I'll have a copy,
give one to my son's preschool, give another to my younger son's baby
sitter, and give a fourth copy to a day care center that I do computer
consulting for. I figure that by doing so, the kids will get hooked on
the songs (they're very good, and kids love them) and bug their parents
until they get their own copy, helping push No! to #1 on the charts.

I have also had to burn a new CD every time a new update comes out, although
here are a few tips for those of you doing so:

I was able to burn January, February, March onto one CD, as well as
including all of the Emusic freebies of the past.

I haven't burned April yet, as I may wait until May (April is 28 minutes,
May could be just as long) so that I have another full CD of Unlimited.

There are still some No! songs left that haven't been put on Unlimited, so
there is still more. :)

Yes they did, but if I recall, it wasn't as high quality as this. Just
like "No!," "Violin," and "Clap Your Hands" from back then. The newer

well the NO! album has, unless otherwise stated, the capabililies of being
played on the computer. (games to the songs) and i would pay that for that
added feature, who care if you already have the songs... if you buy it then
you will have the games on there as well for your entertainment or your
child friend. AND they are all on one cd and not the multiple ones that you
may have burned.

You should donate at least one copy to a preschool. The teachers will be
grateful for a free children's CD, and the kids will love the songs so
much, they'll ask their parents to buy a copy. :-)
