Not to start a flame-war or whatever, but what do most of you think the
Cure's worst album is?

I say it's Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (I would say it's Wild Mood Swings,
but I only borrowed that from the library once, so it probably wouldn't be
fair).

So, what are the worst 2 Cure albums?

Although I like them all, I would have to say that Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me
is the most tedious to listen to.

Yes, it would.

Wild Mood Swings and erm... Japanese Whispers, which isn't really an
album but nothing else they did is nearly as bad as those two...
excepting a couple songs each...

I'm an old fart who got into the band when "Faith" came out in the early
80's.
I know I'm supposed to like it but I have problems getting into
"Pornography."
The songs "One Hundred Years", "The Hanging Garden" and "The Figurehead" are
great but the rest of the album is a bit too dark and damp for me.

The Top is great!!!

I'd choose

The Head on the door (too much 80's sound)
Three Imaginary Boys (This is not The Cure anyway)

The Head On The Door catauplted my descent into the catalog of the Cure.
After that I bought The Top and then rapidly began to fill the gaps.

Kiss Me was pretty good to listento in sections, but I never could get
into Wild Mood Swings.

Japanese Whispers....talk about 80s! And yeah, I think A Night Like This

instrument of the 80's...Is there anyone here that doesn't think that Wild Mood
Swings isn't so bad?

I would have to agree with you on that. There are some really great songs on
Kiss MeX3, but as an album none of the songs really seem to flow together.
I think the problem is that there is so much to listen to, and some of the
songs don't really mesh well with the other songs,

But that's just my opinion. Idividually, the songs are great, but as a
whole, it doesn't seem to work for me.

The (Easy) Cure began in 1976 (well, '78 officially), so, what's wrong with
having the '80s sound? So, you want to tell us you don't like The Cure in the
80s? When they were at their very best? :-)

John - I'll join you in the "wild mood swings" is not so bad line! I haven't gotten
involved in this thread at all up to this point as I see a place, time (sorry, but
I LOVE 80s music!) and reason for all the albums, despite whether or not right now
I can listen to them. Some of them I can't listen to if the sun is shining
<giggle>, some of them I can only listen to driving, and some of them grew on me
little by little over the years.

"Wild Mood Swings" is incredible to me because so many of the songs can relate to
something that happened in my life just before it came out. And the something that
happened came about because of the Cure! (In fact, "Strange Attraction" tells the
story pretty well...I met someone online, but after we met in person...it fell
apart.) I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but it has a special place in my heart.
It's also the album that came out before I finally got to see the Cure live...

I could go on and on with each album...all of them having a purpose to me or to
"the larger world" <wink>. What's nice about the Cure though, is that it IS
possible for a diehard fan to HATE one of their albums...that just proves that they
don't do the same thing album after album...they are true innovators...

And is it me, or do all the songs on that album kinda blend together? I
guess it's cool in the sense that it goes along with the lush, foliage
jungle look of the album's art, but it just makes it that much more a
daunting listen, at 70+ minutes...

Now that's a question. I'd have to say Head On The Door (even though I love
In-Between Days and the non-sax part of A Night Like This.) To tell you the
truth, I think maybe the wording was wrong - I wouldn't classify any CD as
their "worst" but this is my least favorite, but it is a good CD.

For some reason, it's not the worse and I don't like it the least, but I can't
get into Faith. I mean, I love The Funeral Party, All Cats Are Grey, Faith,
and Primary, and sometimes I enjoy doubt, but as a whole, the CD doesn't do it
for me.

But I would have to say HOTD and Mixed Up are my candidates.

I love The Top, and I love KMKMKM, 'cept for Torture, Fight, Shiver and Shake,
and Hot Hot Hot!!!

I'd have to say Mixed Up (if you can count that as an album) and
Japanese Whispers. They're both listenable to me, so iI wouldn't say
they're "awful" per se. They're just bland and unimaginative. I listen

I'd have to say Three Imaginary Boys is the worst. While it is an excellent
album, it is clearly the work of a young band. Also, Robert's singing is
kinda bad on it. Both Mixed Up and Japanese Whispers are worse but I don't
count them as albums. I think the Top has been unfairly criticised. It is
one of my favorites.

_WMS_ is uneven. There are some absolute gems mixed inwith stuff that's
not very good. I'd probably have to go with either _WMS_ or _Three

Doesn't really qualify as a "concept" album, though. Maybe a "cohesive"

be a "concept" album...

That's right. In the immortal words of Primus, "It's just a matter of
opinion."

I have to say I've never heard a Cure song I didn't like.

The Top is fun.
Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me is one of my personal favorites.
Wild Mood Swings is wonderful.
Pornography suits my dark moods.
Disintegration is a nice 70+ minutes.
Mixed Up is fun the way they remixed a lot of my favorite songs.
BDC / 3IB is another of my personal faves.

And so on, and so forth...

well, somewhere in ten imaginary years or faith or somewhere, Roger (i

I was trying to think if there was such a thing as two Cure albums that
could be classified as "worst", but concluded that there is no such thing.
So I looked at all their albums ( I own every one of them ) and tried to
imagine giving up two of them forever. I couldn't do it. I don't care if
you think I'm blindly loyal to the Cure, but I honestly cannot answer that
question - I can't even think of one album that I even come close to
disliking. I think each of their albums is brilliant, and each song on each
album is a work of art. I regularly listen to them all, and really enjoy
it. (Even Carnage Visors).

But hey, that's just me.
