I have a question for anyone out there who collects items from the Police
discography, involving the color of the "THE POLICE" logo on the cover of
vinyl issues of "Outlandos D'Amour". I only recently bought a copy of
this, mainly on seeing a color I'd never seen before: green. Almost all of
the copies I have seen have a red Police logo; only a small handful had a
yellow logo. When I stumbled upon a near-mint copy with a green logo, I
snatched it up immediately.

Does anyone know 1) How many logo colors were issued, both on original
issues and reissues of the album, and, 2) What are the comparative
rarities of these colors? The record contained in the sleeve I have has
the brown/gray A&M label with the large, shaded "A&M" logo in the
background. Others I have seen are the later, mid-80's A&M labels which
were mostly black with a small A&M logo off to one side. Maybe this makes
a difference as to what issue it is.

Now, I know that to many people the collectibility of records based on
covers seems a bit silly, but this does mean a lot to some. Police
collectors will probably be familiar with the myriad of covers for their
1983 album "Synchronicity", all featuring the same basic design but with
slight variations on that theme. I'd just like to know how valuable what
I have may be. Any information, on the newsgroups or privately via email,
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John Barentine

John (et al):
My wife has red, yellow, blue, green, black, white, brown & orange.
None are promo issues, and all are on the 80s style A&M label with the
large AM on top for a background & a small A&M in the 6 o'clock
position. I have also heard reports of a pink one and a silver one
but have yet to find them. I have no idea as to release order or
scarcity of any particular color. Nice marketing gimmick, tho.

The 'Synchronicity' cover has 36 variations, 30 color & 6 black &
white. The b/w are promos. The other 30 were supposed to have been
all released on the same day. Some did not reach south FL until a
couple of months later, so I have always wondered if they were
released on a regional type basis. Of course, no one at A&M can tell
you a thing.

How about the 10 inch 'Regata De Blanc'. Mine is black & white cover
with 'The Police' in silver. Any other colors?

Hope this helps to add to the confusion.

Regards,
Terry

I bought the album in the early 80s and it as the logo in red.
My inner sleave is glossy b&w with a grid pattern with various
"headshots" of the band wearing sunglasses in grainy b&w. There is
also a small picture of Sting as "Aceface" from Quadrophenia.
