I was listening to old records last night and pulled out my 'Life is a
Grand...' record by
Henry Badowski, from 1981, and I could not help hear the similarities
between a few tracks on this record and 'Phantasmagoria'(esp. Edward the
Bear & Grimly Fiendish). Has anyone else noticed this too?
Great, great record, but now I have that 'Henry's in Love' song stuck in
my head.

Mel
P.S. What ever happened to him?

Yeah, I would say that "Sign Here With Me"(originally done by Captain and Henry
in King) sounds just a little bit too much like "Edward the Bear." It is
basically the same song, and supposedly Rat is responsible for it... It was a
blatant lift.

By the way, does anyone have a copy of "Life is Grand" for sale? I just got
back from NY, and I still couldn't find it!

I read an interview several years ago with Phantasmagoria-era Damned in
which the interviewer brought up the fact that "Sign Here With Me" and "Edward
the Bear" are, in the words of the interviewer "Essentially the same song."
Roman, I remember, was shocked that someone had noticed and, amidst great
amusement, explained that he and Henry were "mates" , and sometimes mates get
drunk together and share musical ideas and concepts.
By the way, I know that Roman sings the album version of EtB, but who sings
the Grimly Fiendish-B-side version? It sounds like some weird hybrid between
Roman and Dave...

That's Rat isn't it? By the way, when I met Roman in 1985, I asked him if the
lyrics were directed to any particular recently-departed Damned member. He
coyly replied that there maybe the song was "partly" about him. (I didn't know
about the King ripoff at the time.)

Even from the very first listen, I'd always thought that it was a
bittersweet song about Captain. Well, there you go.... :)

love,
