FYI Prodge are a bunch of latecomer cocksuckers who jumped on the bandwagon
long after techno was pretty clearly defined. I personally know several
people who have hired them and I have met them myself - THEY ARE A POP GROUP
and they are very arrogant and unnecessarily unpleasant with it. Most
promoters having worked with them once and having made plenty of cash don't
want to repeat the experience. Draw your own conclusions.
I won't say the same about the Chemicals but I remember them from when they
started hanging around clubs and getting matey with Andy Weatheral who
brought them to everyone's attention (I think this is when they first
started playing with their samplers). What they did was to revive a classic
London sound best exemplified by DepthCharge ie instrumental hip hop.
Everyone (of a certain age) in London loves that sound because it reminds
them of warehouse parties around '86 -'88 the time when hip hop got mashed
up as house was arriving (from America!) - also the time when e was
semi-legal,new and pure. THEY NEVER DID ANYTHING NEW. They also never did
anything particularly better than what had gone before. Regarding the fiasco
with their name change: this is a good example of their inability to come up
with their own ideas - Dust Bros. were actually a pretty well known
production company (Weatheral must have known this). They are actually both
extremely dull also - but that's no crime.
I have nothing against pop groups per se or the people in this group but it
makes me really sick to see the youth being mislead and coopted so early.
I'll post a definition of what techno really is another time. But today is
NYE and I gotta go get a set togetha'

As most of us are, but there's no need to take a really elitest view...
Instead, it's generally worth trying to broaden people who are listening
to purely commerical techno into checking out some of the much more
obscure stuff out there.

It's true that the Prodigy are definitely very commercialized now... I
personally still like their material however. What I don't understand
is how you can call them a late comer band-wagon group. They had a lot
to do with shaping early 90s break-beat techno in the UK, and have
definitely contributed a great deal of influence to the scene...

It's true that the Chemical Brothers aren't really the innovaters
they're made out to be at times... I still honestly view them as
producing good tracks however. What they do, they're very good at in my
own opinion, and this is what matters.

I'd like to hear this definition of techno.... If anything, I think
that techno has really lost most of its meaning by today's standards.
There are just so many sub-genres of it, that it's not a very
descriptive word anymore.
