Electronica's oddest boffin tired of the music industry
The Aphex Twin, aka Richard James, has consistently been one of this
decade's more experimental electronic music stars. But now he's decided
he's done with the industry. That means no more records.
"I'm gonna release two more albums and that will be that," said James in
Sweater magazine.
Although he swears he's not retiring, James has just grown tired of the
music industry.
"I'm just over the whole business aspect of it," James continued. "I've
made more than enough money. I really enjoyed all of it; meeting so many
industry pricks and winding them up has been immensely entertaining, but
it's gotten old."
James plans to devote more time to his record label, Rephlex.
"I've been neglecting it for awhile, and my partner Grant works really hard
on it. It's time I gave him some support."

Please tell me it's a rumour

I like RDJ as much as the next guy, but really ... he's quite correct.
No self-respecting musician should stay in it any longer than absolutely
necessary. (cf. Trent Reznor et al.) Hats off to him.

Why should it be a rumour when he said so himself?

Listen, I've talked to Grant Claridge, he's a nice guy, but he can't run a
record label on his own forever!! They sure don't get the time to listen to
demos (like mine!!) when they're so busy. So I think Aphex helping out is a
great thing. Perhaps they'll listen to my demo now. ;-)

Jeremy.
