What kind of techno would the Lords of Acid be described as and what
other
artists make music in that vein? Apart from the usual collaborators with
individual albums (Praga Khan,Jade 4 U,etc.) that is.I'm talking about
the
more synth sounding style of "Lust" as well as the more industrial
sounding
"Voodoo-U" by the way,I like both those styles and would consider
recommendations that sounded like either one of those albums.

On a totally unrelated note there was a Magnavox ad about the rain that
featured many songs dealing with, well, the rain. The final song sounded
like
Tricky and had the lyric ".....rain,drip,drip,dripping on my brain" (or
something
like that) followed by a really fast drumbeat.Anyone know what that song
was?

I'm sure I don't know, but no song about the rain has ever or will ever
compare to "The Rain" by Oran Juice Jones..

QED.

the Lord of Acid of the days of yore (circa LUST) would be hardcore
techno...sometimes called old school hardcore techno so that it's not
confused with gabber (which most kids call hardcore). It was THE techno
music of choice in the early 1990s before teh rave scene burned out in
1993 and music splintered in a zillion directions. Hardcore is best
described as a combination of industrial and house, but taking the
elements to an exaggeration. Very low bass grooves, hooting, rapid fire
synth riffs, wailing divas, choir-like sounds ("hoover"), pounding
painos...some tracks combined them while other used one groove and
pound it to death. As opposed to the LUST CD, most hradcore tracks are
instrumental and not really heavy on sexual overtones (Lords of Acid
are known as oversexed stripper music).

I assume you have heard the material from Channel X and Digital Orgasm
who are none other than Praga, Jade & Oliver Adams as a trio. You must
get "Rave The Rythym" and "A Million Colours" from Channel X. These
are classics. Also, if you have NOT heard "Injected with a Poison
(Original Mix)" by Praga Khan & Jade 4 U, you msut! Other related
groups are Phantasia, Transformer 2, 2 Fabiola. Try geeting Sonikbeats
1 and 2 or Techomancer 1 and 2 which feature teh eraly 90s recordings
of the Belgian label, Antler-Subway that produced that material. Tower
Records carries those titles. If you want the all-tiem hardcore
calssic: it's "Hardcore! You Know The Score" by The Hypnotist. It's a
hardcore track that is heavy on teh acid trance sound but it's sort of
a theme song for fans.

TRy getting tracks from Altern8, who like Praga, incorporated a pop
diva sound in many of their hardcore tracks. Like many UK bands, they
added breakbeats (hip hop drums) to their tracks as opposed to straight
ahead Germanic beats of Praga. If you havent hraed breakebat hradcore,
then it'll open a whole new world. The best recommendation I can make
is to get MIXMAG 4: HARDCORE TECHNO CLASSICS which is a mix CD
featuring evrything from bleeping early hardcore (Sweet Exorcist) to
crazy hadrcore (Altern8) to diva hardcore (Bizarre Inc.) to breakbeat
(SL2). It has a wide variety within teh hardcore genre which will lead
you to figure out what CDs to buy. This is important since old school
hardcore compilation (anything before 1993) are hard to come by. A new
compilation that has some of the true classics is the bonus CD that
comes with URBAL BEATS 2. It has probably the techno track that people
first went mental to: 808 State's "Cubik"!!!! It also has diva hardcore
(Capella) and ambient (Moby) plus you get the other CD full of current
music.

Voodoo-U was a massive departure from the hardcore sound with its
(ugh!) acoustic guitar stuff but "Drink My Honey" and "Special Moments"
sound like the old hardcore. I would say that LOrds of Acid have found
a niche all of their woen sort of more connected to the indutrial/goth
crowd than the techno/rave scene. Try KMFDM.

Good luck.
