What are considered the "most popular" bands, or what are some of the
tracks that really move most people on the dance floor, or in your
car? Please email or post any suggestions on some titles one should
take time to listen to.
To gauge where my personal tastes are (I'm not sure how much this style
of music varies) A couple of tracks that I REALLY enjoy are:
HIGH ROLLER, by CRYSTALLINE METHOD (used in "Romeo Must Die")
LITTLE FLUFFY CLOUDS, by THE ORB
ATOM BOMB, by FLUKE (thanks, by the way for the two kind souls who
helped identify that one for me!)
I can't wait to find more that are have the same flavor.

Before you buy.
If you wnat to check a master at work, get a listen at least of
Laurent Garnier's album, Unreasonable Flavour. It was some banging
tunes as well as some really gentle ones. He is the master of French
Techno, and speaks English with a Mancy accent - the funniest thing
you will have ever heard.

Sounds like you'd also enjoy almost anything by Future Sound of London
(sometimes they just put 'FSOL')
Check www.submerge.com , lots of sound bites and links...
Different from what you mentioned, but very interesting...

"Nothing is so strong as gentleness and nothing is so gentle as real

You mostly mentioned COMMERCIAL MUSIC FOR MTV KIDS.
b.t.w he asked for Techno NOT trance.
I'll AGAIN try to explain my point of view about nowadays trancemusic:
When you want to draw a picture of (lets say a building), then you have more
options in how to approach it.
-You can put minimal lines on the paper (But you still know it's a building)
-Or you can work it out totally (That even a total idiot can see that it's a
building).
Nowadays Trancemusic is like the second approach.
But the key to musicmaking is in leaving things out, not adding it untill
you get a fuckin' circus of bleepy casio sounds.
Trance is a hype for people who are just exploring electronic music. And the
musicindusty is making alot of money out of it.
They also know that Trance was nice and original about 7 years ago, but they
can make alot of money so why not?. (it's just a hype)
If you still want to know about real trancemusic then check oldies on labels
like:
Superstition/Harthouse-EyeQ/Rising High/ Platipus.......
Or if you want it faster (GOA) the check Blue room releases.

Too many times have I seen moody DJs that can't mix too well pulling the
crowds (of teenyboppers!!) on their name alone. Am I clubbing in the wrong
places?

somebody said to me that any trance artist could easily do techno in a second
so thats why they do trance. but i think it shows reserve and strength to know
where you stand in techno to concentrate on making complex beats and not the
average four four rhythm.
let me point to Der Dritte Raum. he was the absolute shit in my book with his
song trommel machine, but he traded his artistic credibility to me for the
money it takes to keep going and not to keep it real & on the level like most
techno artists.
I dont know where you draw the line at credibility versus artistry versus the
cash anymore. but i do know is that if trancehad any of the same quality it
used to like techno has these days i'd still be spinning trance. SEAN OCEAN.
> Carl Cox is the best DJ in the world. Accept no substitute.
If that is your experience I suggest you go out more as nearly every DJ
I've heard in the last 7 years is leagues ahead of Carl Cox. Mind you,
I've heard better DJs than Carl Cox play in my living room so perhaps
you might try staying in more.

p.s. Coming down to London this weekend. Anyone fancy meeting up?
Go buy Xtrmntr by Primal Scream, it's basically a cross between techno,m
dance and rock, and it's wicked. There, i've said it.
