***** Is Cosmic Baby Still the Same?
A few days ago, I listened to the latest Cosmic Baby release "Loops of
Infinity". But what a disappointment! Five (not too) different versions of just
one song. The first mix (maybe it's called "Radio Version"?!) has absolutely no
highs and lows. Just some mellow tunes and a soppy female voice repeating
"Loops of Infinity" (nomen est omen). The next two mixes (called
expressionistic and impressionistic) are only extended versions of the first
one. The fourth track is remixed by the Arpeggiators, one of Harthouse's top
acts. It's the one I like best, because it sounds a little bit different from
the others. The last mix was done by Jam & Spoon - needless to say anything
about their remixes: always perfectly arranged, like all five tracks, but maybe
a little bit too perfect - it lacks innovation.
When I remember Cosmic Baby's great releases like "Transcendental Overdrive",
"23", "Stellar Supreme", not to forget projects like Futurythm, Energy 52,
The Visions of Shiva, I wonder what made him change his style.
You might guess one reason if you lokked at the label he now releases on.
After MFS went bankrupt, he signed at Logic Rec. where also Snap (!!) is under
contract. So di we have another proof here of the fact that commercialization
does harm to good music?
Only one year ago, Cosmic Baby stated that he would never release on a
commercial label no matter how much he was offered, because music's just too
important for him!
After all that great tracks I'm really disappointed in this poor record.
Let me know what you think of it...

Like Eric said in this forum earlier, keep the techno out of TOP 40 :)

I bet he likes his new Mercedes ;)
If you were disappointed by Cosmic Baby try some of the recent releases from
the Superstition label. One of my favourites is the Oliver Lieb 12" called
L.S.G. (if I recall correctly :)
peace,

Someone from Germany can probably correct me on this as it's all
third-hand. MFS lost their backers (DSB - East German state record
company) in early-1993, hence the sudden change around that time from a
flood of releases to nothing. Around the autumn, Mark Reeder and
Torsten Jurk who run got new backing. However they had considerably
less cash to play with, hence there's been only a small number of new
releases and lots of exploitation of the old back catalogue. They also
lost a number of their artists to other labels which hasn't helped
either.
Cosmic Baby's Loops of Infinity I wouldn't rate as one of his best
tracks either, though it grows on you over time. The Jam & Spoon remix
I prefer and is what seems to be getting heard the most over here,
though more by DJs who play the more commercial side of the spectrum -
the usual Logic stuff really. Cos played some other new material in his
set when I saw him live a couple of weeks back and I thought that was
better.
