Hi. I figured I would leave my thoughts about the 303 with you people
since I have been reading many of these messages. Have you thought to
yourself that this piece of crap is over used? It seems that everyone I
know has one and nobody can do a thing with it. At least Richie ( plus 8)
had it modified to sound different, but he is bastard( kidding... but
really your music tends to suck.....: ) I rember these things were 50
bucks earlier on this decade but really, $1000-1200? Please. I got rid of
all my 303's last week( 6 of them) because I don't want anypart of this
stupid trend. Here is an example of what I got for one of those
303's..........Arp Odyssey., Mono/poly, 2 sh101's( I have 3 for sale ),2
jun0 106's, Jupiter 6. All this for a piece of shit box. Soon we will be
seeing techno trance acts on MTV.sounds familiar Mr. Winx.
Oh well goodluck to all of you .....

actually no. I can jam to any record that has good filter and envelope
tweaking in it. I have a 303, a MiniMoog and a BassStation and they are
all fun to tweak, but in all honesty the Mini & the BassStation are more
versitle.
I wouldn't call the 303 junk though.

My personal opinion: all the old analogue sound the same. There are some
subtle differences in sound; but overall, one analogue synth sounds the
same as all the others, and analogue is overused. Don't give up the
303's, the Junos, the Jupiters, the Matrixes, the Moogs, the Prophets all
together, but add some variety to your tracks. Once you heard one
resonance-tweaked, wah-wah, phat, squishy sound, you've heard them all.

On 1 Apr 1996 05:39:48 GMT, a mysterious wormhole opened in the fabric of
time and space, and it emerged...

While we're on a squishy trip, can someone please tell me what the synth is
used in:
"Bring Back my Happiness (Josh Wink Mix)" by Moby
"Sex on the Streets (dub)" by Pizzaman (that screechy bit at the end)
"Brainwaves" by U96 (the best acid ever after BBMH (josh wink mix))

I'd also love to find more acid like this...

O.K. Can we learn how to spell? I agree with your points but the spelling
sure makes it difficult to follow.

ok.. and so....? like i haven't heard guitars all my life? ohh they sound
really new and different.... piano's? also a new never heard sound.... hmm
drumss.. arn't they over used? i mean, in almost every song i hear,
they're are drums..

i guess i just don't get where you're cominfrom joe... [unless your a
rocker] a 303 is to acid as a guitar is to rock.. people add things to
there 303's.. some poeple can't use'em some people can [ie.. prototype 909
makes a 303 seem like a whole new thing, acid junkies, woody mcbride], all
use 303's in every song, yet still sound original..
there're is music that uses 303 and suck.. but hey, everything is like
that..

so, i guess you just don't like analog style techno.. thats OK.. not
everyone does.. but ii don't care.. "if you have nothing good to say, then
don't say anything at all"

I agree. I've played around with some Junos, and I love them, but I
wouldn't spend $400 on something that's not even velocity-sensitive.
I would go so far as to say that digital synthesizers with lots of
good DSP functions (e.g., K2000/K2500) can sound just about as good as
analog machines. Plus, they do tons of other stuff, so your music
doesn't sound cliched, like so much "analog techno" does after a
while. Better deal, if you ask me. Can't wait till I can afford a
K2500.

Of course, I'd still buy a TB-303 or TR-909 if someone gave me a
really good price on one.

Hey Sync,
Number one, I have no liking what so ever for rock and roll or its
variations.
Number two, I never said I didn't like analogue techno. I said I
think analogue technology is overused. An implication of this is that
there is a lot of boring music out there, something you seem to agree
with. One way to solve that would be to incorporate new sounds and
technolgies into the music (and I don't mean by adding "traditional"
instruments from the past, i.e. guitars or pianos).
