'BackBone Records is the foundation from which we aim to build one
thing in the UK that seems to exists everywhere else, an industry for
home based hip hop.' DJ Supreme - Founder BackBone Records
BackBone Records is an independent record label that prides itself on
producing the newest and most innovative hip hop from out of the UK.
The label was founded in mid 1996 by Dj Supreme following his departure
from top Brit rap group Hijack who achieved landmark success when
signed to Ice T's Rhyme Syndicate Records.
Our primary focus is to represent what we feel is the true face of UK
hip hop by providing a platform from which up and coming homegrown
talent can get proper exposure. Part of this focus includes using the
Internet to make our material more accessible to rap fans world-wide.
So now everyone can read reviews, download sound files, and order our
latest releases via this site.
Our most recent release, The Icepick EP, has had much success, and we
are already establishing ourselves as a quality label with a quality
product.
Future plans for BackBone Records are to encompass other music genres
like Jungle and R&B and to expand on a national and international
level.

DJ Supremes Bio
Following the emergence of Hip Hop in the UK at the beginning of the
80's, DJ Supreme, like many, became a devoted B-boy. As if a soldier
surging up rank, Supreme moved from body popping to breaking and
graffiti. His first introduction to DJing was in 1984 when school
friend, Cosmic Jam, gave him a demonstration. Cosmic had just spent 5
years in New York and was probably the first UK sratch DJ to emerge on
the UK scene. Supreme, amazed by what he saw vowed he would master this
art now known today as turntablism.
In 1985 Supreme, was confident enough to leave his bedroom and enter
the public stage, but seeked equally skilled DJs to form a crew. It
wasn't long before Kamachi Sly and DJ Undercover turned up to audition
and they formed The Turntable Trixters.
Instinctively the crew set about establishing their name on the street
and did several house parties and live performances as well as taking
every opportunity to grab the microphone and turntables at jams.
It was in the summer of 1987 in White City, North London, where Kamachi
Sly entered and won an MC competition hosted by UK No.1 rap radio DJ,
Tim Westwood. On receiving fifty pound as prize money, Kamanchi Sly
threw it into the on-looking crowd stating 'It's not about money but
about art'. This one act not only caused a riot but got the crew a
record deal, as Music of Life Records star rapper Derek B witnessed the
entire event and promptly arranged a label meeting.
At the time of signing the Music of Life contract the Turntable
Trixters renamed themselves Hijack and their first release “Style
Wars’, 1987, with it's vorocious rap and incredible scratch routines,
officially put the group on the map .
1989 saw the second release of "Hold No Hostage" and "Domesday of Rap",
both produced by DJ Supreme. This single set the standard for UK
BritCore rap pathing the way for other acts like Silver Bullet and Gun
Shot.
With their growing popularity came opportunities to work with others
and DJ Supreme was asked to produce the backing track for the BROTHER
Movement, an Anti Apartheid record. It featured Cookie Crew, MC Mellow,
London Posse, Demon Boyz, Overlord X and The Icepick, to name a few.
The single released on Fourth and Broadway was even sampled by pop
group Snap for the remix of 'I've got the Power'.
Ice T became obsessed with signing Hijack after hearing "Hold No
Hostage" while a guest on the Tim Westwood radio show. He quickly got
in contact with them and immediately offered them a recording deal on
his Rhyme Syndicate label which they accepted. The singles that
followed where "The Badman is Robin" which entered the UK top 40, and
the album "The Horns of Jericho", 1991 both entirely produced by DJ
Supreme.
Selling in excess of 30,000 records Europe wide their success led to
several UK and European Tours. Sharing the stage with the likes of
Public Enemy, Ice T, House of Pain and Leaders of the New School.
DJ Supreme split from Hijack in 1992 due to disagreements with the
other crew members concerning the groups future. The collapse of Rhyme
Syndicate Records and the consequent neglect they sufered at the hands
of Warner Brothers Label contributed to him making this decision.
As a free agent Supreme's first release was "Stolen Beats and Ripped
off Scratches" - a breaks and beats album on Music of Life Records. He
then went on to form Body Snatchers in 1995 with the Icepick and
Grizzly Releasing the "Genocide EP". He also formed Supreme Productions
and eventually BackBone Records. One project, a house track entitled
"DJ Supreme" using samples taken from "Badman Is Robin", was actually
produced by the other members of Hijack. This led to DJ Supreme threat
of legal action against them at which point Avex record label
discontinued it.
With 13 years behind him Supreme still continues to bring musical
compositions unlike no other producer in the rap game. The press's
acknowledged of the production on "Phenomenal Criminal" proves this and
with forth coming BackBone releases he is sure to continue to take his
brand of hip hop way into the next millennium.

'THE GENOCIDE EP
By Body Snatchers. Includes MC Killer, Genocide, Piece'o'Sh-t and
Killer Dub.
The yet unreleased "Genocide EP" has become a much sought after record
following its radio preview in summer 1996.
The Body Snatchers, now split, were The Icepick, Grizzly and DJ
Supreme. The EP has a 'taking no prisoners' feel about it with its
venomous lyrics and menacing beats. The first track, "MC Killer" is an
aggressive up-tempo song with tons of attitude from The Icepick and
Grizzly. Reminiscent of the famed Hijack sound, provided by Supreme,
its sense of urgency and excellent chorus make it a definite winner
with headz old and new. "Genocide" is a battle rap track where Icepick
demonstrates his ability to obliterate MC's in vast numbers and if you
survived that "Piece'o'Sh-t" will finish you off. It's a dark diss
track over a heavy rock loop.
PHENOMENAL CRIMINAL' 12" By The Icepick. Single also includes
'Brixtonites Part 1' and 'Phenomenal Ballad'
Phenomenal Criminal is Icepick's first solo project and is taken from
his forthcoming album 'Revelation 13:9' which is scheduled for release
early next year. The single describes the bleak social conditions of
youth living in urban London and draws parallels between their means to
survive and the dirty tricks of government officials to gain power.
Icepick's voice and lyrical style has certainly matured during his 4
year absence, and for the better, his performance is still as thrilling
as ever. Backed by the solid production provided by Supreme (ex-Hijack
producer/dj) the result is bubbling UK vibes.
For all the headz into battle rap, 'Brixtonites Part 1' sees Icepick
rip away in pure UK stylie accompanied by Grizzly, a recent addition to
the BackBone stable. The 'Phenomenal Ballad' is an instrumental break
that has become a favourite for many-a DJ, used in freestyle sessions
and radio commercials.
Since its release in June 97 the favourable response from both the
media and public certifies this single as a healthy addition to the
already strengthening UK rap scene.
THE ICEPICK EP By The Icepick. Includes Dead and Buried, Sour Puss,
Fa'Real, and Coxman Style.
Following the success of "Phenomenal Criminal" this is the second
Icepick Release on BackBone Records. The EP simply entitled "The
Icepick EP" contains 9 tracks promising a variety of lyrical styles and
beats.
The intro, "HQ Radio", is Icepick's impersonation of a British born
rapper, who is influenced just a bit too much by the American rap
scene. Followed by 'Dead and Buried', where Icepick 'flexes his lyrical
muscle' over a vibrant backing track, laced with harsh electronic
stabs. After "Killer's Response", (continuation of intro track), comes
'Fa'Real' which sees a laid back style from The Icepick - something
that most of his listeners haven't heard. "Sour Puss", 'the luv rap',
is where The Icepick talks of relationships in an uncompromising yet
very comical way. 'Coxman Style' (... to be continued) is a preview
hearing of the Icepick's next release.
The EP was entirely produced by DJ Supreme and scheduled for release
2nd February 1998. We can proudly announce a work of art which we
believe has the potential of becoming a rap classic over on these
shores and build on the success of the first Icepick single.

----------------------------------- Interhit brings you yet another
dance smash-to-be"Tha Wildstyle" by DJ Supreme. From the British Isles
comes the relentless, undeniable grooves of the one and only DJ
Supreme. Hooky, yet with an underground edge that lends credibility,
"Tha Wildstyle" is that "unusual record" that everyone will soon be
talking about. Comparable to the Porn Kings US club smash "Up To No
Good," "Tha Wildstyle" is a pure reaction record. In fact, DJ Supreme
is one of the remixers for The Porn Kings themselves! This is driving,
in-your-face UK dance music at its best. Don't miss it!
If you're interested in learning more about the background of this
mysterious artist, don't ask us! Even we don't know that much about
him. It's all part of the "DJ Supreme mystique." Many will ask, "Just
who is DJ Supreme?" and we will answer "We really don't know!" All we
can do is let the music speak for itself - and speak it does!
With "Tha Wildstyle," Interhit offers a formidable mix package which
includes remixes by the red-hot Klubbheads, Sharp, DJ Supreme himself,
and Skindeep. The original hit mix from DMA Dance Vol. 4: Eurodance
along a radio edit and a bonus Klubbheads remix are also included on
the CD Maxi. "Tha Wildstyle" is one of the key singles from DMA Dance
Vol. 4: Eurodance.
