'Tricky Presents: Grassroots' will be released on August 6th on Payday/FFRR
records and is a collaboration between him and improvisational NYC hip-hop
artists Hill-figuzes. It also features the voices of other NY artists.
Nearly God will be released the following Tuesday August 13th domestically.
The Garbage 'Milk' re-mix should be out towards the end of Summer.
The next Tricky album entitled 'Pre-Millenium Tension' is due out on Island
records sometime this fall. Tricky describes it in the interview as a
'High-energy album' tapping the optimism he now sees in his and Martina's
daughter, Maisey.
Let's hope a tour will soon follow.
The article also mentioned a Bush re-mix. Why??? You can do better than that,
Tricky!
I didn't know Tricky and Martina had a daughter. How old is she? I
thought he was seeing Bjork for a while.

Nearly God is a name Tricky did an album under earlier this year, and he also
did a remix of Garbage's upcoming single 'Milk'
That was goldie...

: You mean you don't have this yet in the US? Whoa! The UK got a first!
: I'll tell you now (though I am really a Goth, Janes Addiction, PJ
: Harvey, Bowie type fan) I really love this trip hop album, better than
: Portishead 'Dummy' which blew me away.
: Don't think about it, buy it.
The UK gets a first sall the time as far as good music goes. I have a
friend over in Britain now, and I gave him a laundry list of things to
buy that may never come out here (ie Puressence, Lionrock, A Guy Called
Gerald). Most British things are released over there before they come out
here, if they ever do.
He also had better bring home a Skint shirt. I'm allowed to kill him if
he doesn't.
"Nearly God" is the new album by Tricky done under this alternate name.
It's out import right now and comes out domestically later this year.
It's very good.
Bjork was dating Tricky at one point, also.
Tricky also dated Bjork before Goldie. It's been mentioned many times in
interviews with both of them.
I know that she's engaged to Goldie, but I heard rumours about her and
Tricky in a British magazine.

1.) What was the date of the LA Times interview.
2.) Obviously I haven't read it, but is it possible that "Hill-figuzes"
is actually Lauren Hill(that is her name, right?) and the Fugees?
Brian
The deal is, his Island contract would not let him record two albums under
the name Tricky in the same year. So...he recorded it with the moniker
'Nearly God' which was a reference given to him from an interviwer a while
back.

1) It was last Sunday and 2) there is a review of the EP in the new issue of
Rolling Stone and the band is called Hillfiguzes (nothing to do with Fugees).
PS - They only gave it 2 1/2 stars but gave Nearly God 4 stars.
She's now engaged to Goldie.

Oh yeah...and she's not only seeing Goldie, but they are engaged to be
married.
Trick dated Bjork as well.

I think she's about 1 and a half now? There was a terrific
cover story in Mojo (?) about Tricky and Martina. Excellent.
Although I'm a little disappointed that Tricky broke his
vow to keep their relationship out of the bedroom and in the
studio. Whatever. As long as it keeps them creative.

i knew Tricky was in and out of there like a kid in a candy store
so did everybody
but jeez i never knew they had a kid
hes never mentioned his kid in any articles (stateside)
has he said anything about how being a father might have affected his music
or his vision of the world etc
and when is the exact release date for NG in the U.S.
what the hell are you two talking about.

Well...he talked about his kid in a recent LA Times interview and said that
she has influenced his upcoming follow up to 'Maxinquaye' titled
'Pre-Millenium Tension' saying it reflects the positivity he sees in her.
Supposedly a more upbeat album (no rumors - straight from the Trickster's
mouth)

August 13th - 'Tricky Presents Grassroots' has been pushed back to the same
date. The Domestic release of 'NG' contains 2 extra tracks.
Damn it! Now I have to buy the US NG!
Anyway, I just got in the "Tricky presensts Grassroots" promo today.
I'd call it an E.P. ...it only has 5 or 6 tracks and is in one of those
cardboard flip-out packages. It's very rap/r&b oriented. I'd tell more, but
the cd is back home...
All tracks are by different groups/people. One by the Hillfiguzes, one by
Tricky ("Tricky Kid") which is pretty cool. I'll tell more tomorrow when I
have the cd in hand..

Yeah...tell me about it. I spent $26 on the import and now I have to fork out
another $12 for 2 more songs.

I heard 'Tricky Kid' on the radio and like it (very different). Can't wait to
hear the rest of the EP.

i just got GRASSROOTS and of all that eps remixs and other stuff hes done
i think its the worst
someone posted that Rolling Stone only gave it 2 1/2
i read that article and it said that standard hip-hop and r&b are just too
stylistically confining to his brand of production
personally i dont think its his production that makes GRASSROOTS sub
Tricky stuff
its just that he should have picked vocalists who were up to the task
except for Tricky the lyrics and vocal deliveries suck
and except for that one Stephanie Cooke line:
do you get an erection/ when you look at your own reflection
but the first three songs do have good grooves
as far as Tricky doing hip-hop
the stuff from the Hell E.P. with Rza is some of the best
outside that
his remixes for intastella and yoko ono are also pretty good
i know hes done remixes for those two and luscious jackson
does anyone know if hes done others

Just picked up the 'Grassroots' EP today. Interesting stuff. Definitely
Tricky, but definitely not vintage Tricky!
I do like 'Tricky Kid' and 'Heaven, Youth Hell' alot, though!
