Hello,

I'm from Hungary, so I'm sorry for my poor english. Maybe somebody can help
me, I'm trying desperately load my bulk dump back to a ram card....

The problem is: I have a Roland U-20 synthetiser and a Roland MC-50
sequencer. The original owner oh these instruments saved a bulk dump file to
a floppy disk through the midi cable. So I know, this is a working dump. I
don't know, how to load it to a new ram card (the original ram card
destroyed). I don't know how to setup the sysex parameters on the U-20 and
the MC-50. I know I had somehow play the dump file like a normal song, but
what do I have to do to make the U-20 to receive it? There is some menu,
"midi monitor", where I see some datas "coming" while I play the dump file,
but what to do to make it work? How to save it to the card? Another strange
thing is, I can't format the card, I've choosed yes on "It's a new RAM card.
Initialize it?" -, but nothing happened, but the internal sounds (I01-I88)
copied themselves to the card (C01-C88). How to really delete all on card?
The original datas on the car were some home made sounds. I don't have even
the manual...

So if someone could help me, step by step, I would be very thankful!

Regards:

Gábor

You wouldn't send a dump over the midi cable to your card directly.
It will rewrite your internal memory, from there you copy your internal
memory to the card. Pretty standard stuff.

Press Edit (enter)- Setup(enter) - Midi(enter) - Common(enter)
Press Curser > until you get to Rx SysEx = on/off, set it to ON with the
Value buttons.

I've never used the RAM card, just saved it to either a sequencer or my PC.
But to save it to a RAM card you:

Press Data - Curser > to Save-Load(enter) then Curser > to All .........
Int-Card and Press Value to - Card(enter).
*note* You don't have to send All, press value on All and see what
else you can send.

I do have the manual! It says:

1) Intializing a RAM Card
Before you use a newly purchased RAM card, you must Initialize (format)
it to accept U-20 data. When you initialize a RAM card, all of the U-20's
internal data will be copied into the RAM card.

*This operation must also be performed for a RAM card which
you have previously used for a device other than the U-20.

2) Press ENTER once again, and the card will be initialized. The
screen will say Function Complete.
