1) The Raven

2) Toiler on the Sea

3) Just Like Nothing On Earth

I've listened to a few of the MIDI files posted here on this newsgroup
and I think they are fantastic! Sorry if I missed any postings of the
above. Is there a website where these can be downloaded?

Glad you enjoy the midis - Raven and Toiler are in production - so watch
this space. Not got round to getting this stuff on a website yet but once I
do you will surely get to know.

I have completed the following midi files and they have been posted on this
NG:

Bear Cage; Big Thing Coming; Bitching; Duchess; English Towns; Go Buddy Go;
Goodbye Toulouse; Grip; Hanging Around; Something better Change; Sometimes;
Straighten Out and Who wants the world.

Files very close to completion are:

Walk on by; Tank; Sweden, Princess of the Street; Peaches; Nuclear Device;
Nice n Sleazy; London Lady; Down in the Sewer; Dagenham Dave.

Files started:

5 minutes; Baroque Bordello; Bring on the Nubiles; Dead Ringer; Let me down
easy; Strange little girl; Raven; Toiler on the Sea and Tomorrow was the
hereafter.

Cheers

Paul

How, may I ask, are you composing them? Are you simply (right, simply)
converting the Stranglers' recordings into MIDI or are you re-recording
everything from scratch, performing the music yourself? From the files I
have listened to, and as far as I can tell, the music is very accurate
and true to form, that is besides for that telltale MIDI sound and, I
dare say, your files make actually MIDI sound good.

On anther note, are you aware that there are at least two National TV
commercials being aired here in the US, one that is definitely using a
loop of the opening bass line for "Peaches" and the other a dead ringer
(no pun...) for that same bass line which is obviously inspired by it
although altered, perhaps to beat copyright laws. I don't remember off
hand the two companies running the commercials but I'll try to pay closer
attention next time they air.

Is it possible to turn off individual channels? Then I could record the
drums, bass and vocals using real instruments and use the MIDI keyboards. I
can't play keyboard :-)

You need a midi editor such as cubasis or (even more cheaply) look out for
computer music magazine (WH Smiths etc) - it has a freebie midi/music editor
with its monthly CD. Try looking up this magazine at future publishing.

Basically I go through the song instrument by instrument working out what is
being played. I have a home studio - so I've got the kit. I've even got
JJ's bass sound nailed (but not from the 'normal midi sounds' - that comes
from a synth. You can use these files to drive keyboards.

PS Just finished another - look out for my next item.

I got the MIDI files from this web page as my news reader or ISP
doesn't carry attachments to this newsgroup

http://www.usenet-replayer.com/groups/alt.music.stranglers.html

When I tried it there was two pages of MIDI files so I got the whole
lot, very good they are too.
Now it seems to only show 1 page, when you click on the link for the
next page it displays an ad for the service.
Perhaps the messages have expired from the news server it uses.
