I just read a website that quoted Donald Fagen as saying they could
not find the multitrack tapes for Black Cow and Aja
which explains why the dvd of Classic Album does not have any
interaction between walter and donald. apparently, they were going to
remix AJA into surround sound, but those two songs were misplaced ,
that is why you see donald parrating the the lyrics from black cow ,
because there was no multi track tape to dissect from.

Remember that this group is not here just for you. I found this
information to be interesting and new; worth a read. Hence the name:
newsgroup.

Dear Walter, The Out Of Work Musical Director,

To Quote Ms. Diane:

It is permissible Netiquette to discuss
any topic in a newsgroup where you
have friends so long as you put some
indicator in the subject line such as
"OT" for "off topic."

The geezer puts "NSDC" in his subject
line, meaning "No Steely Dan Content."

If anyone doesn't want to read it or if
anyone feels no camaraderie with the
person who authors the post, he/she
doesn't have to read it.

But when there is virtually nothing to
say about Steely Dan, when you've
been a member of this group for 10
or 11 years, it is courteous to extend
reasonable latitude to your friend in
cyberspace.

Even Don & Walt aren't talking about
Steely Dan these days. Instead, they
are writing humorous essays featuring
mythical characters on their personal
webpages, as well as the official website.......

Keep Smiling!!! :-)

I'd often wondered (after the excellent SACD surround remaster of Gaucho)
why they didn't follow up with an SACD surround remaster of Aja. Now I know
why, thanks for the info.
Cheers.

Let me ask you a question Mr. Geezer. Who in the hell ever put "Ms. Diane"
in charge of this newsgroup? Did you? Is she "self appointed"? I know that
she acts like she owns this place. She has for years. But she doesn't and
never will. So I really don't care what rules she or you make. I come here
to read about Steely Dan. Hence the name "alt.music.STEELY DAN". Not
"alt.music.what's going on in the Old Geezers personal life"

Oh and by the way, Fagen just put out a boxed set, Steely Dan and Fagen will
be touring next year. Oh, and Water Becker will be putting out his first
solo record in 14 years. But you're right, there's nothing *new* going on in
the SD world. So go ahead and keep makeing threads about The Lone Ranger.

Keep Frowing!!! :(

what is wrong with you, walter?
what have i ever done to earn
this hostility from you?

if i've done something to you,
please let me know & i'll make
amends.

if i haven't, then lay off me. i
don't know you & you don't
know me. i do know you've
written some good posts here,
but this temper tantrum makes
no sense at all.

you want to stay on topic?
then do it. quit talking about
me. you've done nothing to
add to this discussion & it's
a colossal waste of everyone's
time to slog through this crap.

lighten up & have some fun.
this bitterness makes no
sense & i can't believe you
really feel good about saying
this shit.

really, if you have some prob-
lem with me, send me an
email & i'll be happy to discuss
it. i sure as hell don't want to
allow some slight to continue
between us.

And I really can't recall ANY threads that any of out UK friends have
started as of recently concerning SD, only grouchy replies to other's
conversations.

Have a Merry Christmas!!

well of course, that's not true.
dave moore sent the link to the
ike turner obit, timr in general
is a wee bit nuts but beloved,
& i don't know everyone's nation-
ality here so can't speak to the
value of their posts, but it's not
fair to disparage an entire nation-
ality because of one or two im-
mature, mean, rude &/or hostile
residents of said nation.

that doesn't explain what's hap-
pening here. this used to be the
most civil, warmest, most intel-
ligent usenet group around.

are gone forever, over a long time

Diane, Steely Fans, (from wherever You are),

let me emphasize one of diane's last statements:

"(...) this used to be the most civil, warmest, most intelligent
usenet group around."
I hope dearly that we can come back to a courteous or even friendly
way of communicating with one another.

Merry Christmas from Germany

No it did not. This newsgroup has always been a hotbed of hatred.
You are never going to get Cameraderie out of Steely Dan fans.
..A Cliff Richard newsgroup? Yes.
Steely Dan cognoscenti do not neccesarily need to appreciate one another.
Thank God.

Merry Xmas from Germany? Yeah!

Poland 1 Germany 0.!

Merry Xmas Klaus, I suspect a lot of what you mean to get across is lost in
translation.

tim, you know i love you but you're
full of it, brother. you weren't here
back in the day. dejasteve2000,
dr. j, malcolm, so many others... oh,
ducky too. i can't name them all
& ducky was a late arrival, but we
used to be free thinkers & even
argue (remember gedd gadd?) all the
time & still we had respect for one
another.

it was civil in the best way: we re-
spected others even if we didn't
agree with them. we never made
personal comments--NEVER.
NEVER!

i'm not going to rant on about it. i've
said enough. but the majority of
people here would agree that this
group ain't what it used to be, &
that's owing in large part to all the
people who've fallen away.

so, here's an example. i disagree
with you 100% & yet i respect you
200% & life would be so much
less interesting to me if you weren't
here.

cheers to the ones who understand
what i'm saying & how it used to be.
happy holidays & thanks to you for
wanting to share your goodwill with
this group.

love & kisses

Tim,

as usual, I am lost with Your post. Maybe this is my lack of command
of the English language, but I don't get it. Even the presumable
football result is wrong. But if You are from England, you know how to
win football games, right ? ;-)

Yes, I miss quite a few of the SD-crazy bunch of people who were so
joyously and intelligently contributing to this group during the
exciting pre-Two-Against-Nature period in 1999 and 2000. Thanks to the
group I got hold of a nice set of bootlegs (remember Valhalla ?). I
even got the chance to meet a few of those people when attending
concerts in CA and I even met Siri Bakken (aka Sirious) i person in
Norway. It seems only a very few a left ...

However, there is still SD-related stuff that is worthwhile
discussing.

Cheers

Wow, didn't think Newsgroups like this were still accessible :o It's been a while since my last post (2006ish) and while it was embarassing to see what I posted way back then, it brought back some fond memories of old conversations gone by and of real Dan fans who shared the love of everything Dan (Diane, Klaus, etc) Shame the newsgroup has deteriorated over the years, both in content and tone :( Be good to spark things up with Dan fans elsewhere?
