Around 1985/86/87, a woman named Rosie Vela came out with an album in which one
entire side was Becker/Fagen compositions. Has anyone out there heard this
recording? Give us the scoop!

All compositions on the 1986 album "Zazu", were by Rosie Vela ( what a babe! )
herself. Don & Walt were brought in to play on the album by Gary Katz, producer
of all the Dan albums, who produced it too. This was the first time they had
played together for years and led to them getting back together. Thanks
Rosie!!! The sound is definately Dan"ish" and it is a great album.

Rosie Vela is a beautiful ex-model with a quirky, original musical
sensibility. I never got around to picking up this album when it came
out but would love to find it now.

But I have something which may be even more valuable or desired... a
video recording of her appearance on Late Night with David Letterman
from October 14, 1986 where she performed the song "Magic Smile".
It's recorded on Beta HiFi at BII speed and is of excellent quality.

Now if only I had a video capture card... :-(

There is a Rosie Vela "tribute" page with info and loads if pics at :
http://home.earthlink.net/~zimbabwe/zazulinks.html

It can be found by using "Alta Vista" and searching for Rosie Vela.

I bought the CD when it first came out and still think it is as good now as
when I first heard it.

Art,

"Zazu" is still available on CD - it can be purchased through the Internet
Music & Video Shop (IMVS) web site in England. Apparently "Zazu" has long
since been dropped from A&M Records roster in the US. If you prefer vinyl,
you can get "Zazu" in that format from the California Albums web site. There
are links and info for both places at the Rosie Vela Tribute Page (
http://home.earthlink.net/~zimbabwe/zazu.html ).

I've been looking for Rosie's performance on Letterman for a long time. If
you'd be willing to make a copy, please drop a message to zimb...@earthlink.net

Thanks,

Jim F.

I'm holding it right now. Called ZAZU, it was released in '86 with the SD
trio playing and producing. There are no songs written by WB/DF on the LP,
just Katz producing and SD (and several of their session regulars) popping
up here and there on the liner notes. Not a "keeper", but us hardcore fans
were starved for anything that even appeared to be new material.
I played it once.
