I read that whilst Elliot Scheiner was working with the band, he obtained a
quick divorce in Haiti. B&F were intrigued with this, and questioned him
for details about it.
That's my 0.2p

Although I'm unclear on some of the details in the song, I've always assumed
that the basic story is exactly what you describe: Babs comes home from her
trip to Haiti and, nine months later, gives birth to a child with some
distinctly nonCaucasian features.
By and large, the songs on The Royal Scam seem to be easier to interpret and
a bit less obscure than the songs on other Dan albums. Is it just me or has
anybody else noticed this?

This song might win the prize for LEAST cryptic Steely Dan lyrics.
I agree.Only they changed it

Add "Don't Take Me Alive" and "Everything You Did", too.
