Drift over to their site (steelydan.com ... go figure) I think they may say
something there
when The New One is done..... or not.
Definitely catch their show they do (they do!!) rock, and while I would have LOVED
to have heard Deacon Blues here in Minneapolis in 1996. But hearing Glamour
Profession lit a new light on that tune for me. It was one of my life's highlights
for the past 5 years or so. This may reflect my status as a boring suburbanite
with 2.4 kids and a minivan, but as a veteran of hundreds of concerts in my youth,
The Boys were fantastico!
No tour dates have been announced. They have been in the studio for months
working on theri first album in 20 years. Traditionsally, new albums are
followed by promotional tours with 6 to 12 months if not sooner. Steely Dan
are the definition of anti-show biz tradition. I don;t think they'll be on
the road until summer 99 at the earliest. If the unthinkable happens and the
album is less that what is anticipated, they may not tour at all.
> Whens the last time they played around here?
1995-96. 2nd tour in 20 years.
> I wanna go see em! Do they play the classics, or what they want to play, or
new
> stuff, or what?
At the time they played mainly their later jazz rock material. They had no new
marerial to draw on, so they played the majority of stuff from Royal Scam on.
The few earlier songs they played were rearranged to have a more sophisticated
feel, to reflect the current band's style. It's all 'Classic.'
