Eternal life on Earth is the Deluxe package. In heaven its a spiritual half life.
People gravitate with their works to where they will spend eternity. As much as there is an inclination for evil in people, there is also an inclination for good. The strength of your overall works determines how good your reward will be in eternity when you die and go to heaven. If you want eternal life on Earth, the amount of Torah-Tanakh required to be studied is quite great. When you achieve the amount required, with the necessary repentance, biological aging slows down, and God grants you the tree of life. But if you are giving in too much to the evil inclination, it won't serve you much good in the end, and you'll tend to the grave.
