You know the tune.
They sing about Neil Young - but what song (from Neil) are they meaning?

SWA was written in response to a song Young wrote called "Southern Man".
Young intended the song as a protest against the racial violence in the
South during the 1960s, but it had lyrics that many Southerners found very
offensive. Ronnie van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of these people, and he
wrote a response to Young. "I hope Mr. Young will remember, a Southern man
don't need him around anyhow..."
Here are the lyrics to Southern Man (you might need to scroll down to to see

This is easier: here's a copy of the lyrics to Southern Man:
SOUTHERN MAN
Southern man better keep your head
Don't forget what your good book said
Southern change gonna come at last
Now your crosses are burning fast
Southern man

I saw cotton and I saw black
Tall white mansions and little shacks.
Southern man when will you pay them back?
I heard screamin' and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long?

Southern man better keep your head
Don't forget what your good book said
Southern change gonna come at last
Now your crosses are burning fast
Southern man

Lily Belle, your hair is golden brown
I've seen your black man comin' round
Swear by God I'm gonna cut him down!
I heard screamin' and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long?

Sure. Funny thing, too, is that Neil Young is a big Skynyrd fan. I heard him
say that on a VH1 documentary. That Young/Skynyrd controversy reminds me of
the Dixie Chicks/Toby Keith squabble here in the last few years.
