A question for ya
Was Freddie Salem ever a member of the Outlaws? I seem to remember an
interview where he claimed he was. Hard to remember,as it was back in
1982 (Off the Record with Mary Turner I think).
And what band was Henry Paul with (other than the Henry Paul band,
obviously)?
peace out

Henry Paul was in the original Outlaws lineup, but left prior to the release
of the live album in 1977 to form the Henry Paul Band. He rejoined the
Outlaws in 1986 for Soldiers Of Fortune before moving to Nashville where he
ended up in current popular Country group "BlackHawk" - CMT has been playing
their latest video lately. So Paul is on a total of 4 Outlaws albums.

Freddie Salem was a long time member of the Outlaws; Eye of the Storm, Ghost
Riders, and several others for sure. I have a "Rock Star Guest DJ" LP
radio set where he plays both Ghost Riders and a cut from his rare 1982 solo
effort. It's possible he left at this point, as there was no new effort
from the Outlaws between 1982 and 1986, and I'm not going to crack my sealed
Soldiers Of Fortune cassette to check if he's on it -

No, Freddie was not on the Soldiers of Fortune recording. The Outlaws
lineup for that release was:

Hughie Thommason Lead Guitar, Lead and Backgroun Vocals
Henry Paul Guitar, Lead and Backgroun Vocals
David Dix Drums
Chuck Glass Bass, Keyboards, Backgroun Vocals
Steve Grisham Lead Guitar, Backgroun Vocals

The song "Racin' for the Red Light" is credited to Salem, Thomasson &
Bishop, and is copyrighted by Scruffy Music, so I presume Freddie Salem
contibuted to the writing that song (but not the track).

Freddy Salem was not including in the 1986 Soldiers of Fortune line-up. Henry
Paul said in a radio interview in Cleveland that Freddy was a "Artist in his
own right" and had a more "Heavy Metal" sound they were looking for in that
reunion effort.

Salem did put togather a band "The Wildcats" with a couple former members of
the Godz and a drummer from the Cindy Lauper backup band to support his solo
record. I happend to catch their first gig in Euclid Ohio. Freddy said in a
local paper that they were next off to tour in Texas.

Next time I saw the band come through town they were billed as "The Godz".
Perhaps they had trouble booking gigs as "Freddy Salem and the Wildcats"?

Freddy did a couple Outlaws songs both shows. He owns a popular Tex-Mex
restaurant in Akron OH and he opened a rock club a couple years ago too. I
have no idea if its still open.

On the Outlaws Soldier Of Fortune tour Freddy came to a show in Akron and Henry
spotted him in the crowd and asked him on stage to perform Ghost Riders and
Green Grass & High Tides.

The album, "Mongolians," is sold as a Godz album. It's on Grudge
records, released in 87. It had original Godz members Eric Moore and
Mark Chatfield along with Freddie Salem and Kevin Valentine. I
don't know when or why the name switched from The WIldcats to The
Godz, but the sound is pure Harley rock.

Gary,
I heard on the radio that Freddy Salem and his new band (cant remember
name) will be playing the Oden in Cleveland. I didn't catch the date but it
must be in the next week or two.

Friday the Southern Rock Allstars played the Oden and only about 150 people
turned out. Cleveland does not seem to support the southern rockers for some
reason.

Yeah, that might be a little too north. The Godz play Cleveland and
Columbus and can still draw a crowd. They're from Columbus.
I grew up in Northern Kentucky, about fifty miles down the river
from Cincinnati, and Southern Rock was huge in that part of the
country.
Who is in the Southern Rock Allstars?

Gary,
The Southern Rock Allstars has former members of Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet,
and the later years Skynyrd. The only name I know is Dave Hlubek. This lineup
was a 5-piece and they did the Hatchet and Blackfoot tunes real well. They
have a pretty good CD available from their web site "www.southernrock.com".

By the way, I heard the comercial for Freddy Salem again and his band is call
"New Justice". I think I still a copy of Freddy's solo album. Not southern
rock, but pretty good.

Kevin Valentine from that Godz album also played with Donnie Iris in the early
80's and Breathless before that.

Best Regards,
Tom

Thanks for the info. I checked the website. Come to find out, these
guys don't even have any roadies. Just the band doing everything.
An intersesting approach. It's either love or desperation, maybe
both.
Had no idea about the Valentine/Iris connection. I always loved
that song they hit with in, what, 80? Don't know Breathless.
What does the Freddie Salem solo sound like? Anything like
Mongolians?

Does anyone remember the band Fountainhead from the 70's? I am dying to

I own "Live" from Fountainhead, recorded 1981 at Toads Place, New Heaven
(Toads Records and Tapes 0001).

It's a good LP and the band sounds like Point Blank, with 3 guitars.

I didn' tknow they made two albums. What's the title of the other ? Good ?

The second album is called "Straight from the source's mouth" and it
rocks. I need a copy of it if anyone out there has it.

Henry Paul is currently in the country group Blackhawk....

I have both a radio show where Freddie mentions being in the Outlaws, his
solo LP, and all the Outlaws albums he appears on. The solo effort,
frankly, is not that great with a cover of an old CSNY song and one song
that's virtually the same as it appears on Outlaws album "In The Eye Of The
Storm". But it has a couple of bright spots, if you're looking for
something different.
