Does anybody recall the instrumental band The Fabulous Counts?
Can anyone point me to where any material by The fabulous Counts can be
found?

The only cut by them I know is 'Jan Jan',they were pretty popular in the
'60's,i think they recordd on the Moira label in Detroit.

Thank you,

As Ian Wright mentioned, they changed their name from the Fabulous Counts
to the Counts upon joining Westbound. After the Counts recorded albums for
Westbound, they recorded 2 albums for a label called "Aware - Hotlanta
sound". The albums are called "Love Sign" from 1973, and "Funk Pump" from
1975. I haven't heard the Westbound albums (except for a couple of cuts
from CD compilations) or earlier material, but these two albums on Aware
are about 75% vocal tunes, with a few instrumentals. I have these 2 albums
myself, and I suspect that their earlier material is grittier. But these
are worthwile checking out, as they are definitely in the same vein as the
tracks I heard on the Westbound compilations, albeit slightly more
produced.

They had an original copy of "What's Up Front That Counts" a week ago for
$80 US. They might still have it.

The Counts best stuff was undoubtedely "What's Up Front That Counts" from
1971.
The record is available as a reissue and sporadically available on original
vinyl (I know that Dusty Groove America had a copy last week see
<www.dustygroove.com>. I'm not a pitch man for them, they've just earned my
respect for doing their funky homework)

Out.....
