best record is What Would The Community Think?
other ones are Dear Sirs, Myra Lee, and the Covers Record.
also, there are no other songs with any more Beastie Boys samples.

Hey there-
SY addicted and reading these messages for the first time. Noticed your
CatPower note. Shes released five full-length recordings. Dear Sir, Myra Lee
(you can order on the SYR website), What Would The Community Think, Moon Pix(of
course), and the latest The Covers Record just released on Matador. You can
look at her little blurb on the Matador site, also there are many fan pages.
The thing on the Matador site has a mistake about the date she started making
music, it wasn't in the seventies!! She was too young then! :) Anyway, hope
thats helpful. I love the Covers Record, other people have different views, but
I think it's brilliant. The people who Ive talked to who dont care for it too
much say its because its so acoustic, which is precisely why I like it so much.
Anyhow, have fun with that info. and please check out the SYR Records website,
because they have so much good stuff and its the most inexpensive way to
acquire the recordings because they don't charge shipping. Steve Shelley rocks!

I have most of the Cat Power records (except the 2 new ones) and
although the records are good Cat Power (which is essentially a girl
named Chan Marshal) IS WEIRD. cHAN IS A BIG DORK. She won't face the
crowd, she throws temper tantrums onstage, rarely plays any songs off
her records, she keeps strumming in between songs so no one can
applaud, she carries on conversations with live bandmates during songs,
her bandmates often go to the bar in the middle of a song and come back
15 minutes later. And I heard an interview with her on WREK in Atl, GA
where she proved herself to be a total twit. Oh, and she's dating one
of the guys from Smog.

Now you know more about cat power.

I read this post and was able to pinpoint why Chan as a performer
infuriates me so much. One of the things I always look for in a band is
the way they respond to their audiences, but it's like she doesn't even
try. Last time I saw her live, I felt like I was offending her just by
being there wanting to hear her. If it bothers her so much to perform live,
she really shouldn't.

I actually felt this way when I saw Modest Mouse a few days ago. I was so
excited to see them, but Isaac came out 15 minutes late, mumbled
something about having a beer and we all had to wait 15 minutes more
before they came out. Then they played as if we weren't there.

I really like both of these bands and I still listen to them on CD, but
live, they were just disappointing to me.
Yours,
Beth

Oh well. I saw her live and I had never even heard of her before and I fell
completely and utterly in love. I have heard that in places where she feels
comfortable she is alot more fun. And how about this: what if it's all a big
put-on? What if she's really a David Bowie but the character she is playing is
this painfully shy person? That would be amazing. In any case I don't think
it is fair to call her a big dork for not being what you want in a performer.
But that is just me.

I saw Modest Mouse once and they were big jerks and almost got in a fight with
some guy in the audience. That was also kind of fun, although I don't like
their music on the whole. 764 Hero opened for them and their drummer was
really adorable.

This isn't my account so don't e-mail a reply here please.

While I've seen her do this in the past, the most recent band shows I've seen
of her (which were 2 years ago, I guess), this wasn't a problem. While I
highly doubt there'll ever be a, shall we say, straight show, its not as prone
to the above by far...unless people have seen her recently and can attest
otherwise, although I don't think she's done the band thing for awhile...

When was this?? I don't recall, and I work at WREK. Back in the Glen
Thrasher days?

i saw her a few months ago...it was just her, as the Covers Record is,
and she was up to her usual "antics" more or less...however, the show
was filled w/ a bunch of fucks who would not stop talking (loudly)
throughout the entire set...she eventually just walked off stage
abruptly but it was after about a full set's worth...she kept making
subtle comments about the talking but no one stopped...(aside from the
few of us who weren't talking to begin w/) so i don't blame her in the
slightest for that...

WOAH, hold on a second, you gotta be kidding me..you mean to say a band
came on FIFTEEN MINUTES late and then you had to wait ANOTHER fifteen
minutes...i just..it's just not possible

once i had to wait three hours for iggy pop to come out, and all we got
in the way of an explanation/apology was a grumbled 'fuck you'

yea...i didn't even know shows happened at any supposed time anymore, i
thought it had now given way to the standard of
just-some-time-after-ten-whenever-the-band-gets-on or something...(iggy
rules...)

Modest Mouse is coming to my town in a few days. I've never heard of
them. What kind of music is it. Should I go?

You shouldn't go because Modest Mouse writes some stinky songs now-a-days.
Plus if your female and a friend of the Murder City Devils there is a chance
you could wake up at Issacs pad the next morning .

Please don't act like I just fell off the turnip truck...I'm just saying
I was disappointed that I paid for a show (which is kind of a rarity for
me, so I was expecting something pretty good) and stood with a sold-out
audience while the band obviously didn't give a shit about us. Waiting
wasn't the biggest problem; it was that for a while they played as if we
weren't there.

You shouldn't have had to stand for that either...I would have probably
walked out after 45 minutes. It's
just my opinion that you should at least try to be courteous to people
who pay to see you. Without them, it's hard to afford the drugs, you know?

As for Modest Mouse's music, there's a ton of it online. Take a listen
for yourself; and I believe the charges were dropped against Isaac. Anyone?

what a professional. he was probably looking for a shirt all the time and
finally gave up, reluctantly baring his wrinkly bird chest onstage.

Ha! I'd never thought of that before, but it's right on. And after
listening to Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain this morning, I definitely
noticed some Pavement in there too.
