maybe a stupid question, but im just wondering if the members of sy use
drugs or have ever used them, and what kinds of drugs.

I know they smoke up every now and again. And Mr.. Moore took LSD when he
was younger (and probably still does).
On Providence (from DN) Mike What says:
"You gotta watch the mojo thurston, your memory just goes out the
window."
He is talking about Pot. Yes kids thats right there is a
chance that perhaps our hero engaged in such illicit activities!
ah, if only everyone knew the power of moderation like SY...

I wouldn't think Thurston and Kim do anymore, what with a kid and all,
but you never know.

Well, Michiel, most readers of this fabulous and interesting newsgroup
will be quick to point out some references to "pot" which - as both you
and I know cos we are dutch - is freely available in every coffeeshop in
The Netherlands, from the Bulldog in Amsterdam to the "Grandma's Recipe"
in that little cosy village up north. What they do not know is that the
Sonic Youth are fervent glue-sniffers. Sad, I know, and the events that
lead to this persistent addiction are quite unfortunate. It happened back
in the days when the Youth were still an underground band, only known to
those people who had their ears and a heart set to alternative (as opposed
to mainstream...) sonic sounds. Long before the days little 12 year old
punks started to use the sacred pieces of SY noise to upset their unlucky
parents. But I'm wandering off. Anyway, they were in their studio
improvising the way only they know how to improvise. Next door, however,
builders were busy making a room soundproof. To do that they glued that
special foam stuff on the walls. Those men made sure they wore protections
against the penetrating and highly seductive smell, but had no idea to
warn the people in the nearby rooms. And so it happened that the Youth
were pulled towards that magic smell of glue. And never ever they could
escape it.
Yes, I know, even the greatest stars have their crosses to bear.

I think it was in the Sonic Youth bio that they had adrug story. They had a
joint on a pin. They would put the cup over it, let the smoke build up, and
then in hale.
Maybe I read that some where else though.

Freedom is not just another word for nothing left to lose.
We know this from messages beamed from the space-lantern
of his cosmic highness Sun Ra!
The message was clear:
"nOthIng iS." - Thurston Moore
- to reply via email replace the blah with com in the address -
Second, there are a few drug references laden through the albums...
in the mind of a bourgeois reader ...
"pass it around or stick it on a pin"
anyways, it seems like Thurston anyways condemns drug use in Junkie's
Paradise on WM

On Junkie's Promise, he deals with _addiction_, not the same thing as use.

I don't know how reliable my source is but apparently Junkies Promise is
about Thurston and his record buying habits, and not about smack

On the official web page (I believe), there's an interview where TM says
JP is about the nature of addiction and its effects on friendship in
general. Kurt Cobain was in his mind but it's not about him specifically.
eric's trip is both a film & a drug reference. the TRIP is indeed a refrence
to LSD, as the song itself is a reference to Warhol superstar Eric Emerson
tripping in (i think) "Chelsea Girls."
