this may just be the california area, but ive noticed an evolution in
the types of fans that morrissey has. it seems that as the solo Moz
had gained popularity, the smiths fans and early moz fans either left
him or changed.
years back, the fans were (in my opinion), a kinder, more down
to earth group. i remember camping out before concerts and it was almost
like everyone was friends. i would instantly be talking with people around
me and wed end up sitting in circles and chatting as if wed know eachother
for a long time. i remember instances when people helped a complete
stranger jump-start his car in the lot and offer a ride to the nearest
phone. others ive met offered to go on food runs because wed get hungry
while camping out. and it seemed that anyone who knew where moz would
be staying after the show told us freely. and when we would finally
get to his hotel, everyone stayed quietly outside until morning when
he and the band came out. nobody disturbed him.
now it seems that the fans have changed. i believe that they
are still aware of the meaning of the lyrics, but its just not as
personal and emotional. at the most recent concert/leg, i recall
groups of people getting rowdy, loud, and completly rude and vulgar.
people would cut in line, there was less of that "hanging out" with
eachother in line. maybe its got something to do with how mainstream
hes become, and the teenybopper types that heard him on the Top 40
station. i cant put my finger on it, but more fans are beginning
to resemble people like Thrill as opposed to most of the non-rude
fans on this newsgroup. its rather sad when i sit back and think
about it. maybe the shit fans will lose interest and go away,
leaving the great ones i loved his concerts for.

waxing nostalgic,
mike

Will you get over me already? Quit harrassing me. Quit judging me. And
quit proving to everyone what a hypocrite you are. It's boring already!

that's strange.. perhaps those people were just idiots, but every
experiences I've had at moz concerts (three) have been delightful... in
fact, waiting in line for tix overnight was exactly the type of experience
you talked about - complete strangers talking about their shared
passions... and I've been at the front of all three concerts and never
been smashed to pieces despite my short stature... but one thing I have
noticed is a few older fans being "snobbish" as if their allegiance to the
smiths from the early 80's makes them special...
