Question about YOU and Zwan

I know a lot of people are all gung ho about going to Chicago should Zwan
peform and stuff but...
Why?
From what you've heard does it inspire that rabid fan that the Pumpkins did? Or
are you going JUST because it's Billy? Or do you have ulterior motives like
using it as an excuse to see friends or whatever?
And yes I -do- realize this is OT but unfortunately I dun get alt.music.zwan
yet and there's enough topics here anyway.

I would go simply because Billy -was- the Pumpkins. And now I'm loving
Zwan just like I loved the Pumpkins. I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.
I'm glad Billy's decided to make simple music.

Im pretty happy with Zwan. I am into their style, and Im sure it can only

it loose.
"Shining Path" makes me feel the same way that "Muzzle" and
"Raindrops" did when I first heard them. There's something perfect yet
almost accidental about them.

I totally love about 85% of "Shining Path," but there's something about the
"let your body sing" lines that I just don't like. They come off a little
too sing-songy, which is a shame, because like I said, I think everything
else about the song is completely amazing.

I live here. But, I did fly to Los Angeles to see Zwan on significantly

I didn't go just because it was Billy, but because it was Billy and Jimmy
together. I believe that's close to 100% of why "the Smashing Pumpkins"
were great. And, that's it... if I believe that, I'd be crazy not to go.
If I believe that, then Zwan was my favourite band before they even set
foot on stage. Zwan has the Billy-Jimmy axis that the Pumpkins had.
Zwan's first show is those boys' next show. I'm there.
And, yeah, I have faith, based on prior experience. I went to the first
(full band) Adore show and the first Arising! show; both rohked.
Now. Having actually seen Zwan, I can say this: from 1996-1998, "the
Smashing Pumpkins" were playing concerts without Jimmy. Zwan, 2001, is
absolutely a better live act than that TSP. Zwan is also more "fun" to see
than the Pumpkins of any era. These shows were a blast.

"What the hell's so special about Tuesday anyway?" and then he sang

getting these SHN's to hear the others. My favorite right now is 'El
Sol' for the part where I think he sings:

Jesus I is prolly the weakest Zwan song, at least in my eyes.

all too rarely] is always a treat. Of course it came about because of my love

Jesus I is really growing on me for the music, but lyrically it's random.
I really don't get how the whole "I'm waiting for my man...hey
whiteboy...whatcha doing downtown?" part fits in with the rest of the
song. I really dig the crescendo parts of Jesus I, though.

I still think it's 'bound to fall'. ''bout to fall' crossed my mind, but
after hearing the 011118 Schoeps SHN I definitely hear a 'n' sound there.
I'm pretty surei it's 'all' at the end of that, so I guess 'bountiful'
would be ruled out in my mind.

To me, it seems like a fun jam. The music's easy to groove to, but the
lyrics are uninteresting, and for what it is, it's too long to really get in
to. I'd probably consider it my least favorite, too.

well...as for me, i attended the l.a. shows for many reasons. of
course, first and foremost, i was hoping that billy and jimmy wouldn't
let me down, and they did not disappoint. i didn't really know, going
into it, though...so there were a few moments of doubt.
part of my reason for going was because the timing was right, i could
afford to miss some work, and it's not close enough to my wedding date
to inspire panic...secondly, i'm not going to be able to do this kind
of thing forever, and i wanted another "experience." and yes, a lot
of that did have to do with the people i wanted to see. i've made a
lot of great friends over the past 3 1/2 years that i've been on amsp,
and it was nice to spend time with some of them.

I would say Jesus is the strongest of the ones I've heard. It's all
about the riff. It's a live song, I suspect. Whereas some of the other
songs are good songs but seem more like Billy in his bedroom. If that
makes any sense.

Number one, I went because one of the shows happened to be scheduled
over the weekend so that I didn't have to take any vacation time,
which I have none at this point in the year. Had all the shows taken
place in the middle of the week I would been very sad and very
disappointed.
Number two, because it was Billy. If Jimmy wasn't a part of Zwan I
still would have gone. But thank God Jimmy is in Zwan.
Number three, I really couldn't think of a reason *not* to go. I went
because it was relatively close to where I live. Just an hour long
plane ride for just $125. Had the show been in Boston or
Miami...well, I'm just glad it was only in LA.
Number four, it is a nice chance to meet up with the online friends
I've made over the years. Unfortunately some notables were unable to
attend, but maybe they'll make the next event show...and unlike after
the last Pumpkins show, I'm fully confident there will be another
event show in the not too distant future (though I'll probably have to
beg out on a Chicago Christmas show if it does happen)...

lyrics it seems that people went because partly of the Billy/Jimmy connection
and because of the chance to see folks.
And it sounds like they came away from it liking the band more then they
thought they would.
So ok. I can understand it now.
As for me I've only heard Broken Heart & Glorious (oh damn my 56k!) and while
Glorious had me going "Mmm" Broken Heart sort of kicked my ass with it's
delishness.
As for the possibility of a Zwan Christmas show and me going that answer is no.
I'll probably be too busy packing for my move and my luck in Chicago isn't
-that- good.
I'll expect reviews and a copy of the show however **^^**

I'm interested in Zwan because, IMO, a Zwan album would be, for all
intents and purposes, a new SP album. Or at least a close proximity.
You've got Billy writing, singing and playing guitar, and Jimmy on
drums. I know there are Darcy fans out there, but lets face it: she
wasn't the best bass player. I don't even think she plays on half
their songs anyway, and she wasn't there for the last tour, so it's
not a big loss. I always thought Iha was kind of underrated, but
still, the core of Zwan is SP. Except now Billy doesn't have the
burden of the fans' expectations that come with the Smashing Pumpkins
name. In other words, he doesn't have to play "Disarm" or "Zero", and
the album doesn't have to sound like MCIS. It's a different group,
technically.
