In the Pisces Iscariot liner notes, Billy says something about Spaced
having the seven secrets of the seven veils of Apollo, or something like
that. What the hell is he talking about???

I dunno what the hell he's talking about. I read the lyrics and counted
seven times that he swore and I thought that was it...then I looked closer
and saw an eighth, so that (needless to say) somewhat blew that theory. Any
ideas guys?

Soma is an Indian name, with a tale behind it. Soma was a sculpture, and
made a statue of the Indian god Siva for a temple. It was so beautiful,
it was not for human eyes to see. So the gods would destroy mankind. But
during a storm, a tree falls through Soma's house and hits the statue,
breaking off a toe, making it imperfect. Siva had basically spared
mankind. Siva is the Indian god known as the Destroyer - not only can he
create life (this is represented in statues by Siva holding a drum), but
destroy it as well (fire in another hand). I hope this clears thi up for
you. Peace.

I disagree. Read Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World." Think about it. Listen
to "Soma." Think about it. Make the connection? 'Nuff said.

Well, of course. Nobody reads *your* posts.

:-)

But yeah.

Read the FAQ, people.

Well, there's a nice way to prove two people can be right. I hadn't
heard that version for the name Soma before, but did find a few other
mythological mentions. Ah well, no positive anwser unless you ask
Billy, so it's all speculation...

SOma:
A deity in vedic hinduisim / also a plant ot the substance derived
from it
this plant contained hallucinogenic properties......aryan rituals
involved
the consuming of soma giving the taker a perception of immense pers
onal power......the rig veda descibes the process of making
it........

the two definitions seem intrically connected, but billy was probably
referring
more to the substance than the deity associated with it......Huxley's use of
the word seemed more straight forward, especially with hius involvement in
mescaline.......

Damn, don't any of you read the FAQ? There's a whole section of "Threads
not to start again," and this is one of them. By the way, we all already
know that Tristessa is close to the spelling for "sadness" in umpteen
romance languages.

In reading all of these I haven't noticed my "opinion" mentioned anywhere...I
had thought there was some kind of common consensus on what the name might mean
but I guess I was wrong -- what was I thinking to think a Pumpkins fan wouldn't
question something?? Hehehe...
Regardless, what the title always meant to me was "sleep". In a lot of
dictionaries you'll get the deffinition of "sleep" BUT, you sometimes find out
about the PLACE, "Soma". Supposedly in some Greek (?) literature there is a
place spoken about called Soma. When you go to this place you enter a deep
sleep and will stay in that coma-like state for many years -- when you finally
wake up all of your problems will have been eraticated.
Soma is deffinately one of my favorite songs and that deffinition means the
most to me as a listener to the song...but, even if I'm totally off kilter...at
least take note that "sleep" is mentioned many times in the song.
Thinking this mail won't come out right and I'll be misunderstood, Sean
