Has anybody else noticed that the main zombie guitar riff is the
top of the disarm cords at almost exactly the same rythm and the
main ridiculous thoughts riff is almost an exact copy of the
funky power chord part of soma only it's played in full chords.
and cranberries and pumpkins are both members of the fruits and
vegetables food group.

Yes it's known that Zombie and Disarm are the same three chords, but with
the way songs are written and recorded and the time that the two songs
came out(pretty close in time) I doubt that the Cranberries "ripped off"
the pumpkins.

In article <4mivbd$m...@geraldo.cc.utexas.edu>,

disarm was released waywayway before zombie and 'no need yo argue' was out

the pumpkins wrote and recorded disarm back in '92, it just didn't get put out
w/ siamese dream until '93
the cranberries' zombie was one of the last tracks completed from NNtA,
although it was their first single, and NNtA wasn't released until '94

two years is very far away considering the topic

my two-bits

Yeah, I noticed that right after Zombie came out. The only difference is
that Disarm is twice as fast, but the chord timing is the same.
Pretty crappy, huh.

Hm. If I ever have a band, I'll be sure not to write any songs that use
a vi-IV-I chord progression, lest _I_ be accused of copying Disarm...

C'mon, people. This has gone around enough before w/ Collective Soul. Most
songs that are written today revolve around a small number of base chords.
That doesn't mean everyone copies everyone else. When 2 bands write a song
with the same 3 chords, it doesn't necessarily mean one ripped off or copied
the other. It just means they chose the same chord structure, which, given
the number of songs today that only use a few basic chords, is very possible
and likely to occur.

pumpkins released disarm about 6 months before the crapberries released
zombie.... so that is proof that the cranberries bit off of pumpkins
because they cant do anything themselves.

Besides, Zombie and Disarm are NOT the same exact 3 chords. Each song as
4 chords, and they're still not the same ones.

> BenActually the four chords differ in just their highest notes. Only in
disarm does billy play a "d and g" high note combo on each chord but the
D/F#. Thats the only difference between the two songs.

actually, lastest cranberries sounds more like Nirvana to me...and also,
disarm copies chords from some other song(damn, can't think of it right now)

Who cares? Don't the cranberries rip off everyone?
