Where exactly on Mellon Collie is the 'Explosion from Doom courtesy of id
software'
Which track is it and what time is it at?

It appears in the song 'Where Boys Fear To Tread' approx 1:22 & 1:56 & 2:29
& 3:02 into the song. There is actually a story behind SP having a Doom
explosion in their song. I believe that SP did the music for Doom. And if u
were a cheater, as was i, you would remember the code 'spispopd', which was
of course the 'no clipping' code. Now spispopd has a meaning: Smashing
Pumpkins in small piles of putrid debris. Yes that is what it means. So now
u know what u wnated and even more.

Another useless SP fact brought to you by:

Nope, SP did not do the music for DOOM. It was done by Robert
Prince of id software if I remember correctly. And I don't think
spispopd really has anything to do with SP, it was some kind of
joke in the DOOM fan community before the game came out. I think
the whole story is in the DOOM FAQ, but I'm too lazy to look it
up.

As I recall, the 'explosion' is actually a recording of a pumpkin being
smashed. It's all so fitting, don't you think.

Actually I thought he was joking but now I'm not so sure. Trent Reznor did
the Quake soundtrack but the Pumpkins have never written the score for a
computer game.

The explosion is definately the rocket explosion from Doom. Read you MCIS
liner notes, or play doom.

It sounds nothing like a pumpkins being smashed.

Y'know, I always thought it was the sound of the barrel exploding. Although
I think he's saying that they didn't actually explodes rockets or barrels to
get the sound effect in the first place, but instead just smashed a pumpkins
and messed around with the resulting sound. Like how the lightsaber sound in
Star Wars is just the sound of a vibrating steel rope slowed down (or
something like that).

It's deftones, not Def Tones.
