A cople of wtf moments ( the beginning and ending of the penultimate track
in particular ) but overall this is impressive, nice and fast for the most
part and Slayer doing what they do best. Just finished playing it and about
to play it again...which is always a good sign!

Oh it's real and while I haven't heard every track all the way
through, due to the kids, I haven't heard anything that makes me
cringe or reach for the off button. It's all sounding rather good. I
may sound guarded at the moment, as Slayer have the habit of throwing
in a wtf moment so I need to hear it all before I can really comment.

Not heard any wtf moments yet, but I have been playing it in the
background as is my normal way and there have been quite a few moments
that make me want to thrash, which is a good sign. Even the slow bits
have had me noddin the ol noggin.

Human Strain and Americon are both pretty horrible, Beauty Through
Order and Playing with Dolls are both fairly average, the rest is
grade A Slayer. Whilst it's not the album I was hoping for it's still
the best they've sounded since DI. Unit 731, Snuff and Psychopathy Red
are the stand out tracks. Overall a good album, and something of a
return to form.

I don`t hear anything horrible here...Playing With Dolls is definately the
weakest track but it`s still OK. To be honest, after 3 listens, this is
another contender for aoty for me...although it joins a long list!

Been playing it all night and not heard anything horrible. Some
average bits, but nothing horrendous. I can see this being a
contender also.

Well quite, I looked at your lastfm page just now and it said you`d played
WPB 10 or 11 times in a row. Are you that impressed or have you left the
player on repeat and wandered off??? I don`t think I`ve ever played the same
album 11 times in a row!!

I been playing WoW, and so that keeps me busy. That is how I used to
play new stuff all the time. New album, stick it on and let it run.
I am at the computer for probably 95% of the time while it's playing.
It's only recently that I have played 4 or 5 different albums then
choose another selection (or maybe let those albums repeat). I can't
remember the last time I had one album on for a whole evening.

So while it's been on for 10 to 11 spins I have not been exclusively
listening to it. I have been reading, chatting and playing. If an
album can make an impression while I am concentrating on something
else then it's usually very good or very bad.

You'll be glad to know while I am writing this I am listening to Scar
Symmetry and I don't think it will ever get played for a whole
evening. I am sure they never used to sound like extreme power metal
before. Maybe it's the awful clean vocal parts that remind me of
PM...*shudders*

I couldn`t get along with WoW at all...I have rediscovered a passion for
gaming since buying the 360 in the year but those open world rpg sort of
things, not for me. I can see how you can get lost in something and let an
album go on repeat but 11 listens...it obviously made an impression!

with the new one.

The key to WoW is having a someone you know also playing the game.
They can make the game a tad easier. The one thing that initially
drew me about was the fact it played like a single player game and did
it with such high quality. The social side just adds flavour and can
be the reason people keep on returning, just to stay in touch with
friends they have made along the way.

If you ever want to go back to WoW give me a shout and it might make
it a easy to get on with.

Realistically aoty is down to 2. But I`ll probably do a top 30 this year as
there have been so many great albums. I have a tentative top 20 worked out
( in no order ).

I have heard a lot of albums I like this year, but not all of them
would really "fit" a top 10-20-30 metal albums list. I guess I could
take the Kevin way out and say they're sort of "metalish",

I think they finally got the message. For the most part, I don't
dislike any of the songs after 4 listens. Which hasn't been the case
with the past 3-4 albums.

New Slayer has actually left me kinda cold.

It's probably not the album's fault, though - more likely timing. I'd
been taking a long break from thrash until recently, and in that time
have been revisiting a lot of my old thrash and crossover favorites:
Death Angel, Dark Angel, Nuke Assault, D.R.I., MOD, etc.

WPB falls so pale in comparison it's embarrassing.

Did you ever get around to the new Porcupine Tree album?

Waiting around to hear it again in a few months might be the best
thing. To me, though, I like it more so far than I have the last 3
albums.
I don't think that will change with time, either. on CI I did like 6
songs, and that's more songs than I liked on DiM and GHUA. I haven't
heard any of the three for probably 2 years now.

My early impressions have been that I'd rather have the five killer
songs on DiM than this entire album.
