Blut Aus Nord - Memoria II - enjoying this as well, time to delve into their
back catalogue again...
Immortal - All Shal Fall
Megadeth - Endgame
Slayer - World Painted Blood - easily my favourite 3 albums of recent months
Belphegor - Walpurgis - finally got round to hearing this and as usual with
Belpheogr it doesn`t disappoint
Obituary - Darkest Day - thought I`d give this another go, still
under-whelmed, just another Obituary album really. Good when it goes fast,
dull when it slows down.
Nile - Those Whom the Gods Detest - continuing to surprisingly impress me
Enslaved - Ruun and Isa
Helloween - Better Than Raw
Destruction - Release from Agony
Voivod - RRROOOAAARRR
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Cryptic Wintermoon - Of Shadows - harmlessly dull
Persefone - Shin-ken - frustratingly average. Melodeath with some great
guitaring and progressive elements spoiled by occasional sing song choruses,
the odd clean vocal and tiresome ballad.
Rammstein - new album, forget the name - not my cup of tea, lasted three
songs
Cor Scorpii - Monument - how did I miss this last year? Ex Windir members,
excellent and in a similar vein
Morbid Angel - Covenant
Hypocrisy - A Taste of Extreme Divinity
Might check this out

Also enjoying this.

Two out of three....Just replace the Deth with either Insomnium or

Listened to this once. Might give it another spin, but getting quite
bored with the Egypt theme. Well produced and played, but still
boring.

I`ll give the Gorgoroth another spin in due course, I`m in quite a black
metal mood at the moment so it`s in with a chance. Insomnium are still just
OK to me.

Actually, after a further couple of listens I have to say it`s weaker than
previous albums but still enjoyable.

Yeah, that`s how I felt about Nile after the last album came out. I expected
little from this but it`s hitting an un-expected spot with me.

One guitar player and the keyboard player formed Cor Scorpii, the other
guitar player and bassist formed Vreid. The drummer was with both bands
originally but eventually just stuck with Vreid. This Cor Scorpii has much
more in common with Windir than Vreid does.

I see you're listening to World Painted Blood so often you've listed
it twice. :-)
I went through the last few pages of lastfm writing down what I`d played and
had obviously listened to it twice!
Incidentally the new Gama Bomb is absolutely ripping.
Yeah it was rather enjoyable, but I need a few more listens.

Great band.

Relatively big fan of the first two, although I didnt like where they
were going on Firewood and stopped at that. Pentagram I love, Jethro
Tull not so much.

Put this in the category with the new slayer

I did warm to the Evile slightly after a couple of listens but it`s still
disappointingly average.

Defiance-The Prophecy

The pre-Illusion stuff is their best, Catharsis is their best album.

It's not in the same league as the others, however I gave it another

This was a legitimate free download from the Earache site, they're so
confident in the album they were giving it away for free, not sure if
the link still works now as I think it was only for one day.
I'm a bit of a fanboi, however saying that it's a big improvement on
Fear of A Blank Planet which was for me a little bit of a
disappointment.

UK release dates are meaningless to me fool. So it should be out in
the states in like 2 weeks then?

Fuck jethro tull and their heavy metal grammy.

Might be their best album. I go back and forth between this and
Nightside Eclipse. (obv I think the s/t is their best recording
though ;)

One of my faves by them but I don't own a copy as I'm waiting for them
to pick back up on the double cd reissues (which stopped right before

I think 4 listens is all I gave it. Although it did grow on me a bit I doubt
I`ll give it a full spin again anytime soon.

They were crap by then. The lbum that won the grammy sounds like Dire
Straits. I love their stuff up to around Stormwatch.

Well it is only one song from the album with 2 couple of minute extra
tracks. I`m surprised Game Over has never been released with then tagged on
as extras. I`m too lazy at the moment to check and see if The Plague bonus
bumps it up to full CD length.
> The Cure - Disintegration

It`s coming out as a double CD re-issue early next year. In the UK anyway,
you backward people in the States may have to wait longer.

Aha! And now to out-kvlt TJ once again! :)
Anthems was already the beginning of the end for me. It has two
awesome songs, but it's over-orchestrated IMO. There are too many
points where it approaches that "carnival music" shit I hate in
symphonic BM.
That, and the mix really devastates Ihsahn's formerly demonic vocals.
ITNE was melodic and folky, which I love ... but it was also cold and
evil, which I love.

The Brain Death EP is your favourite Nuclear Assault release?? One song from
Game Over plus two 2 minute extra songs? I don`t get this. The 2 songs are
fine but are effectively two songs not good enough for the full release.
It`s perfectly enjoyable but hardly the pinnacle of their career.
It's a 2 and a half minute song and a 4 plus minute song FWIW.
There's also the potential that he's referring to the cd version that
also includes the fight to be free ep. Haven't heard it in a while
but I recall the b side cuts to be standout

I don't know. I guess it just depends. I just can't listen to the

Listned to this yesterday. Typical slayer record, 4 great thrashers,
coupla horrible turds, coupla mediocre songs.

FUCK. Saw this thursday and recognized the name but couldnt be arsed
to read the promo shit, then was kicking myself in the ass when it
came up later, and made a not to pick it up when I was out today but
forgot.
I've seen plenty of mixed reaction to this, but I'm loving it. It
definitely sounds like the four guys all had their say and it's a
monster in my eyes. How can you go wrong with Wino and Al Cisneros in
the same band?
Oh I expect to love it, thats why I'm pissed I forgot to pick it up
yesterday :-/

I am listening to it off their myspace page streaming. And I have to
say "a bit"? If a bit means a lot, then yes.
I guess it could fill the void that it probably will be 2 years before
Mastodon does a new record. I feel like I could listen to this, what I
am hearing, several times and not have any problem.
Tom
Well, to be fair, I think the prog elements of Baroness are a bit more
restrained but that is just my opinion. They have been out a while
but I would say that most people who like the last two Mastodon albums
would like Baroness' Red and Blue albums.
Tom, start with the newest (Blue). I think it is a stunning record
and the best they have done.
