Okay, bands like the Supertones and especially FIF have peaked my intrest
to ska. But, I don't want to limit my knowledge of ska to just those
bands (and Reel Big Fish) Can anyone tell me of some great ska bands...I
mean you're absolute favorites. This is your chance to get a baby ska fan
to appreciate real ska.

I just got into ska myself, so this may not help, but here goes nothing.
Ska-core: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Fishbone(?)
Ska/Punk: Operation Ivy, Reel Big Fish, Buck-O-Nine, Less Than Jake
Ska: Skatalites, Early Bob Marley (and his later reggae stuff is cool too),
Skavoovie and the Epitones, Skawalkers

yeah... fishbone's ska-core... HA! They are barely even ska! They are
my favorite band of all time... but they take more influence from the
meters (funk) than any ska... truth and soul is hands down the best album
ever.

Yes, because Jesus needs the worshiping when people are trying to have
fun dancing. No reason to muck up a perfectly good worshiping
opportunity.

It seems that religious bigotry is the in thing these days. I'm
assuming you were being extremely sarcastic, Alex. I'm not. You are
actually ripping on people for practicing their religion. And a
religion that preaches peace and love at that. Wow. How enlightened
you are. Frankly, what the fuck is wrong with ENJOYING religion? Or
are you just mad that some bands sing about religious subjects? I'm
sure they're oppressing you while they're dancing and singing about
God. Right? Is that it? Or is it that you can't have fun when someone
else is expressing themselves and their religion. They aren't forcing
you to join them, are they? So what's the problem? And how many people
do you know who started dancing to a song and then went "Hey! I don't
agree 100% with what this song is trying to say! This band is ruining
their song with lyrics like that and I'm not going to dance to it!" Not
very often, if at all.

i agree with you here darren. as religion is something held quite
personally by most who pracitce it (hopefully at least), i dont see the
point in giving someone shit over it. people ave killed people over
race, and political views, but religion ranks near the top as cause of
hatred and resentmen among people. i see no reason why someone is
anti-racist or anti-sexist that they shouldnt be anti-religious
persecution too... it is one of the main tennants of our countrys
creed...
i definately believe in debate and argument over points, but to just
go out and say " you stupid fuck! how could you believe that load of
nonsensical garbage.." i mean...jjez...you might as well tell someone
to go to hell because of thier race. its silly. and it illicits the same
response.
the only reason people are so open to persecuting religion is because
it is generally accepted by political practice and media alike. and i
truly believe this from a formerly unbiased point of view.

Is Mustard Plug considered a Christian ska band? I've listened to the CD
few times, and absent of a liberal smattering of the four-letter words
that characterize most ska lyrics, I didn't see anything that would
indicate a reference to Christianity.

rest of the guys in the band are just nice guys.
