Thank you in advance.

Version Galore was his first album and I rate it his best as it was a
complete innovation when it came out. All Treasure Isle Rocksteady
backing tracks.

Should be "The Lost album"
They were originally dub plates for King Attourney Hi-Fi sound system
using rhythm tracks from the Mighty Diamonds' Right Time album. So
they've never been commercially available before.
And the sound quality is excellent just like the artistic quality.
Killer stuff. Believe me, Al, at least this time.
Definitely Dread in a Babylon (virgin/Caroline)

Before you buy.
I strongly suggest getting "super boss" it costs 14 dollars from
reggaeexpress.com
I actually did comparative shopping before I got it. Most of the tracks on
Version Galore are on Super boss(it also has 100% treasure isle rhythms), but
it has a lot more songs(27, I think version galore has like 15). The only
problem is that there are no liner notes whatsoever. The least they could do,
is tell what songs he's toasting on

it is the first album to feature a guest in every song. Rather than talking
over dub versions, U ROY and the guests share the song, making them duets.
When we sat down with U ROY to conceptualize the album, we said U ROY is the
godfather of DJ's throughout the world, so why not do an album like modern
rap albums (check a Puff Daddy album, it has guests on all songs). After all
it was only fitting that after giving so much to rap, U Roy takes a little
back, seen!!!
The guests are as follows.
Tracklisting:
1. Intro 2. Half Me Get - with Dennis Brown 3. Know Who I Am - with Third
World 4. Money - with Horace Andy 5. Same Song Acapella - Israel Vibration
6. Same Vibe - with Israel Vibration 7. Know Yourself - with Ernest Wilson
8. Love Fe Me - with Jimmy London 9. Serious Matter - with Beres Hammond 10.
Ska Version - with Johnny Moore 11. When Jah Come - with Dennis Brown 12.
Interview 13. Bass Power - with Horace Andy 14. Night Nurse - with Gregory
Isaacs + Dennis Brown 15. Miss Till I Kiss - with Jimmy London 16. Half 3
The Hard Way - with Dennis Brown + Cheb Aďssa 17. Love Fe Me 3 The Hard
Way - with Jimmy London + Baobab
It is the first album to feature a duet between a Raď singer and a REggae
artist. Actually, I'm releasing it after Aswad's album which features Cheb
Mami, but I checked with Mami's manager, who is also Cheb Aďssa's manager,
the cut with U ROy was done a few days before! Let me tell you one thing,
the fusion of Raď voices and Reggae is brilliant, it works and I want to do
a lot more, because it is fabulous.
It is U ROY's first album done in JA in more than 15 years. Produced by
Flabba Holt for the most part, it was done early 99 and mixed here in Paris
by BRavo from Leggo's studio in early September. A dub companion was also
mixed and some tracks will be available on TABOU1.COM soon in Real AUdio and
one in MP3.
My favorite cut is Know Who I am with Third World. One thing: when Third
World plays roots and culture, they're absolutely magnificent, and with U
Roy it is real magic!!!
There is a hidden track at the end of the album, some interview bits, a
stunning one minute version of Same Song by Israel Vibration recorded
outside in JA (lots of cricket noises in the background)

Sure you're not thinking of I Roy's Ten Commandments? His deejay
version (picture disk no less) of Exodus?
Good album that hasn't been mentioned yet that is hard to find and Tony
Robinson ta rass! Love is Not a Gamble.
I assume you're talking about the U Roy? SoundSystem. It's also now
available on vinyl where before was only an aluminum byproduct

Uh oh. A Miami DJ told me it was U-Roy. I bought it about 20 years
ago, yellow vinyl, pics of a very red guy on both sides, on one side
he looks like Luciano's father. It sure is Exodus, it sure is great.
In excellent condition, too. it never came with a picture
cover/sleeve, bought at a used record store, just because of the funky
pics :-)
yes, much agreed. this is the uroy i keep playing of late!
peace, michele.
Peace,
Chris D.
While I haven't heard the LP I doubt I'll agree. IMO it would be great if
more exclusive dub plates made it to general release. All the same it does
sound like this is an essential release for the truly committed and not for
someone listening to U Roy for the first time.
Guess I'd better go and buy it now...
Be lucky

Whatever you get, don't miss "Chalace from the Palace" it's on
numerous compilations, and "Dread ina Babylon" from Virgins Frontline
series. The man has a great sense of humour.

Thank you to everyone for all the info. regarding U-Roy
releases. Will definitely grab one or two real soon :)

Reading the sleeve notes it seems that these were specials done by U Roy for
King Attorney, which were released on a very limited run LP. It would seem
that Leroy Pierson in the US had a copy, which he unselfishly let the label
'Sound System' use for this CD release. For me it's a really interesting
part of Jamaican musical history, and it's great just to be given the
opportunity to hear it. Channel One never released any titles with U Roy and
so it's great to discover that U Roy toasted over all the Diamonds crucial
Channel One hits, even if they were just originally intended for Sound
System play. I can't really see the point in John Masouri criticising this
release, it's a pity that he doesn't appreciate it for what it is and the
fact that someone had the imagination and conviction to put it out at all.
For me it captures U Roy at one of the peaks of his career, when he was
playing out on King Tubbys and King Attorneys Sounds and had just unleashed
wicked DJ cuts to many of Bunny Lee's top 'flying cymbal' rhythms (Gorgon,
Rock with me Baby, Don't you cut off your Dreadlocks etc). Buy without
hesitation !
I do recall the Tony R. singles featuring URoy at that time. I remember
wondering if it was the Wailers in the background (actually it was the
Gladiators). I recall a 12" of Small Axe by URoy w/ gladiators background
which was superb. I think a little after these hit the streets the
Natty Rebel LP was released on TR in JA and Virgin in UK (the cut Natty
Rebel was U-Roys Soul Rebel eh?).
Nice memories,
Peace,
Chris D.

I agree, this is a great record. The executive producer is note noted
on the liner notes, but my guess is that it would be Tom Ray, who also
owns Vintage Vinyl records in St. Louis, which is also (not
coincidently) where Leroy Pierson is and Bob Schoenfeld and Nighthawk
records, thus the connection.

The album was leased to Sound System-- for a price. That's business.

I was also suprised at John Masouris' review of this, especially as he
knows his sounds. It's testament to U-Roy that two of my favourite
releases of this year are the Right Time Rockers and Return of Stur Gav
CD's.
And aren't Beth Kingston's (nee Lesser) photo's superb.

That's the one! it is I Roy.
I agree. This is a label that I think is putting out some of the best
roots and reissues out there. I don't think they've released a
derivative title so far. Not content to release only titles on the
reggae revive scene. For me their best so far has probably been
Abyssinians Last Days which I think is a modern day classic. Plus I
think that their graphics and cover art is highly original as well
