Tell me more about this band...
Do they sing in English or Tagalog/Pilipino?
-Haole, who has always wanted to start an Oi band that sang in Samoan
both!

There were 2 female ska comps put out: "ska down her way" on shanachie, though
most of the band didn't even have female lead singers (just guests or what not)
and then some comp on Simmerdown records who's name escapes me.
There was a woman in ska page, but I don't think it's up anymore.

Doreen Shaffer released an album with Dr. Ring-Ding and his all-stars
backing her up on Grover (I forget who did the US release - maybe the
now-defunct moon) but you can get in on Jump Up!
There's Orange Street, but all they had out was a tape before they broke
up.
Anyone wanna make me a copy of the tape?

All Around Great Guy
Put3Ska have a few albums out in the Philippines (available online). Their
songs are a rather eclectic mix of styles that cover the gamut of ska. I
haven't heard anything from them in a couple of years, but they were keeping
up stylistically with more mainstream bands like Save Ferris and the
Bosstones.
Their English lyrics aren't any more cliché than that of their Stateside
peers (I'd have to guess that this effect is intended to evoke the sense of
innocence in the songs of the late 50's and 60's), but the writing in
Tagalog/Filipino is on another level entirely. It's much more in the formal
Filipino lyric style which is much more poetic than everyday spoken Tagalog.
That's an area where Put3Ska stands out from the majority of their American
counterparts who write the way they speak. Not that there's anything
necessarily wrong with that, but it certainly sets them apart.
But that's just my two centimos.
Your Filipino Pal,
Tedford
