Just saw Sting this weekend. He did a version of his old
Police song Rosane that really suprised me - even had a trombone
solo in it. Really very ska. Was nice.

I saw sting at the Arts Center in NJ, and it was great. But I myself
think that Roxanne hjas more of a regge influence than ska. Alot of
the Police stuff has that same influence also. Kinda like a
ska-reggae root to his older music

IMHO the Police had a lot in common with the whole Two Tone thing. A lot of
the energy of Punk, with some reggae influences. The Clash also falls into a
similar category, I guess you could say that from a "ska purist"'s point
of view they were the equivalents of Goldfinger or No Doubt in the Two
Tone era. ;-)
The (English) Beat opened fo the Police at one point, and Sting is even
seen wearing a Beat T-shirt in one of the Videos from Zenyatta Mondatta.
I used to skank my ass off to "Canary in a Coalmine" and "Man in a Suitcase."
I think Stewart Copeland was responsible for most of the raw energy typical
of early Police. I love the stuff he SC did as Klark Kent.
There really hasn't been any real reggae influence in most of the music that
Sting has produced in the past 10 years, but he still manages to produce
some very good music with inluences from all over the map.
Anyhow... Back to ska!
I just moved from Boston to Santa Barbara, CA and am looking for Ska! Anyone
got any recommendations for record stores or concert venues? I had an urge
to pick up the new Toasters and couldn't find it in any of the stores I've
found to date. I miss Newbury Comics' prices (w/ coupon) and selection...

Those songs are damn awesome, no? The police did some especially
skankable stuff. Check out the album, Zenyatta Mendata (sp??).
